My favorite car thus far
The Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder was my dream car and now I own one. I love being able to put the top down and drive feeling "free" when the weather is nice. The feeling the wind in your hair when you're going 110mph on the highway is exhilarating. Also, the females seem to love the car so I guess you could call it a "chick magnet." Every female I have told that I own this car has always either said, "I've always wanted one," or, "I've always wanted to ride in one." The engine comes in handy when driving around rude drivers that don't want you in front of them. The mini van next to you that won't let you over. He stands no chance. In 3 seconds you've sped up faster than he can go in a quicker time. It's so easy to merge. The car is quiet when compared to other sports cars and I enjoy that as well. The last thing I want to do is announce my presence unless it is with my awesome stereo. The car comes equipped with 6 Infinity speakers. They come in handy when the top is down because when you blast the stereo the sounds comes out crystal clear even when at a high level. The car handles turns like a dream as well. It hugs even the tightest turns at high speeds. When a sign says slow down to a certain speed to safely handle the turn I know that I can maintain a speed that's about 20mph high than the suggested limit without my tires loosing traction. My car has over 190,000 miles and still has the original engine and transmission.

Interesting ideas, poor execution.
I got this car roughly a year and a half ago. I have put about 25,000 miles on it, and I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. The car has lots of interesting features and quirks, which may be nice on other platforms, but for this vehicle, it feels like the perfect storm. The visibility is poor due to the convertible top taking up so much space, and the forward visibility is poor due to the increased A pillar size. This forces you to sit in a lid down position and is tiring when combined with the poor ride quality. It is very stiff and firm to drive, and every crack and stone in the road is felt in your lower back. The power train is nice, lots of power and plenty of room in the gears, but the weight of the car makes it dull and feel like a boat. The car is similar size to a small sedan but only two useable seats. The rear seats are tiny with no leg room. If you enjoy sitting on a wooden bench, then the backseat is for you. Trunk space is nonexistent due to the convertible top, and the depth isn't useful. Who would want to stack groceries on top of each other? Overall, the car has some nice features, but paired with this car, makes it very displeasing.

Fun but problematic
The car is slick, looks smooth and was comfortable. Leather seats can be a bit hot in the summer but that's to be expected. The view from the driver's seat was nice for the most part, with the exception of the rear window being only a small piece of clear plastic that had yellowed from the sun. The 16 gallon tank is fairly cheap to fill, but on such an old car I was getting 16-20 mpg average. The handling was great, and driving with the top down is a blast. My main problem in the car was rain. Not only because it won't handle well at all in it, but because the roof leaks. after taking it to a Mitsu- specific mechanic, I was informed that specifically '98 models of the Eclipse Spyder are notorious for having faulty roof seals, and will need the roof replaced every 5-7 years. Which led to my other major issue with the car. Replacement parts, while few and far between, are also incredibly expensive. Overall I enjoyed my time with this vehicle but wouldn't recommend it to a friend.
