Overall this vehicle is a joy, both excellent to drive and pleasing to the eye. It handles very well and is quite low to the ground, which I prefer. I have found it to be very fuel efficient for such an old car, even in suburban and urban areas with lots of stop and go traffic. The convertible top folds down quickly and with ease, though it isn't fully automatic as you have to give it a nudge at a certain point. Even after 160,000 miles it still runs beautifully; I have no trouble starting it. Unfortunately the key sticks sometimes, so locking the car can take longer than it should simply because the lock won't turn. However, this is not much of an issue because if the drivers door will not lock, locking the trunk will lock all doors too. The key also sticks when trying to turn the ign... (more)
Story
My sister and I like to play Disney music loudly when the convertible top is down, driving around and singing.
Pros
My favorite feature of this vehicle is the appearance and the convertible top. The shape of the body is distinctly less rounded than some of the newer models, which I find to look classic and appealing. The convertible top allows me to take advantage of nice weather while still having a convenient and practical vehicle. When pressing on the gas pedal, you can tell the vehicle is well built and sturdy.
Cons
Since BMW is a generally expensive make, simple repairs are often more expensive than necessary. I have to clean the back window before putting the convertible top down in order to ensure that the window will not get scratched by dirt folding into it. The heat and air conditioning take some time to really get going, which in general is not a problem but can be frustrating during times of extreme hot/cold.

2003 BMW 3 Series - Fun to drive, but not practical.

I do love driving this car. I find it handles well, turning accelerating, and I love the sound of the engine. However, the maintance and upkeep costs are just too high. I have actually performed the majority of maintenance on my car myself to help reduce cost, cause even a simple trip to the mechanic can be $1000 minimum. I had also heard before buying the car, that some BMWs are great and some are just lemons. I think I got the lemon. I had the motor/engine replaced at 30k miles. Along with the motor radiator and water pump. I also replaced all of the door window actuators at 40K along with a lot of the dash switches (lights, hazards, windows, etc) This car has had something on it replaced pretty much every month since I bought it.
Story
Driving through the hill country outside of Austin, tx. This is a super popular spot for motorcycles and car enthusiast to cruise. Very hilly, long straight roads with no traffic.
Pros
Beautiful lines and design, I put an after market front spoiler with fog lights on the front end. Its a beautiful car. Its so much fun to drive, handles like a dream, hugs the road, and quite frankly very safe - I have never had any worries about that!
Cons
Cheap parts that break easy and are expensive to replace. Highly suggest becoming a diyer if your are really enthusiastic about being a beamer owner.
