The German engineering in this car is exceptional, over 150,000 miles and the car still runs like new. Keeping up with normal maintenance is the trick behind keeping it in such good condition. The car is 13 years old and the leather in the backseat still looks brand new and can rival most new cars on the market. The wood trim has held up better than anyone could ask for, along with most of the tools on the inside. No matter what, this car is fun.
Story
Driving this car back from a road trip to Florida from Pennsylvania, we counted how many people gave us a thumbs-up as we went by: 345 people.
Pros
The leather seats are stitched perfectly and have held up to years of people getting in and out, groceries, dirty animals, anything and everything. The cold weather package allows for a snowboard or skis to comfortably fit inside the compact car or even long piece of wood if you are building something. The all-time best thing about the car is the heated seats. I live in a cold weather prone area, and these seats heat up quickly and are HOT.
Cons
One thing that should be noted is that the car likes to have little minor issues pop-up and when owning one, one should be unafraid to see error lights pop up on the dash. Often times it's a sensor that's dirty or something small, other times you need to tear apart the engine and replace a head gasket valve. The heated mirrors are a great option, especially living where it gets cold and snows often in the winter. Unfortunately, the driver's side mirror did have to be replaced due to a malfunction which caused an ugly stain on the glass part of the mirror, but it didn't render the mirror un... (more)

Overall I have had tons of fun with this vehicle. The twin-turbos that come stock within the vehicle are very capable. Add a tune (JB4) and the car becomes one with two personalities. One as a very comfortable transportation vehicle, and the other as a speed seeking demon. With 400hp the car feels as if it just can't get enough speed and is always looking for more if you can handle it.
Story
Launch controlling the car from 0-160mph and breaking the sound barrier in the process has been the most exhilarating experience I have ever had in this car. Possibly in any car. It is something every car fanatic needs to experience in their life
Pros
The perfect combination of ultimate power and luxury for sure. With a red leather interior, manual transmission, catless downpipes, a JB4 tune, and twin turbos, the car quickly becomes one a car nut dreams about.
Cons
Reliability issues regarding the turbochargers have been very apparent in the earlier N54 engines. This has been an ongoing concern of the BMW community, but BMW has seemed to settle this issue. Other than that, as long as maintenance is taken care of, the car is very stable and the I6 engine itself is bulletproof.
