This is one of the best cars I've ever had. It survived a fairly bad car accident and continued to give me years of usefulness after that. I like the body style, which changed shortly thereafter, so it felt good to have one of the last relics of that era of BMW.
Story
Back in college, we would stuff this car with 4 people, although despite it being a 4 seater, it's really only comfortable for 2, and we'd put the top down and drive to the beach. It reminds me of that time in my life.
Pros
This car felt sturdy and sporty. As soon as you turned it on, it was almost as if you were ready for the track. It handled very well. All of the interior design felt and looked quite expensive. The warranty and BMW customer service has been unmatched in my opinion.
Cons
The seats weren't the most comfortable. Everything about it felt really stiff. In particular when I first got it. Also, there was basically no technology in this car. I had to buy a Bluetooth adaptor to use my phone or play music. The back seat was basically useless for any passengers.

This car is always one of Car and Driver's top 10 for a reason. The handling is crisp, and the car is ready and willing to take on any corners that may come up. The ride is fairly smooth, but you will feel the bumps due to the low-profile run-flat tires. The build quality is what you would expect from a German manufacturer. This car just has the cool element. The convertible hardtop makes this a practical car for all season driving in some parts of the country.
Story
The best memory I have was cursing to Tahoe through the Serra Nevada Mountains with the top down and the wind in my face.
Pros
The hard top convertible makes this a practical car to drive all year long in climates that do not get snow. It uses the BMW iDrive infotainment system, which allows Bluetooth phone and music capabilities. Also, the build quality of the interior and exterior are solid. The look of the car is what you would expect from BMW, including the timeless double kidney grill.
Cons
Due to the hardtop convertible, space in the trunk is very minimal. The gas millage is not that great, and it uses premium fuel. Like most European imports, repairs can be costly.

I came from Los Angeles to purchase this car, which was a five hour drive each way. They had the car waiting there for me and it was all a quick process so I could drive back home the same day. We negotiated the price beforehand and they even lowered it more when I got there and threw in an updated navigation CD which was a big plus. They were very nice and open. I did not feel that I was being forced to purchase a car. I got exactly what I wanted.

The sales agent was not overly pushy. Sales agent was honest and did not appear to "act" as if he knew what he was talking about. If he did not know the answer to a question, he immediately asked someone who did know. He thoroughly explained the pricing and dealers bottom lines, in other words, very transparent - which was the biggest selling point.
