Yonkers, NY Driving Tips
Driving in Yonkers is not very difficult. Yonkers is what I like to call: the midpoint. We’re not in the congested part of the city where public transportation would be your best option, but we’re not exactly in the secluded areas of Upstate New York where a car is absolutely necessary either. I would say that having a car in Yonkers does make transportation more comfortable. We do have busses here and many of them do operate well, but there are certain areas that are just really hard to get to by public transportation. Not to mention, the busses up here are not like the busses in NYC. If you miss one, you’ll be waiting 45 minutes to an hour before the next one comes. In bad weather, this just is not an option for me. In my Honda Civic, I am able to get around quickly and efficient with very minimal traffic. I can purchase my groceries and just put them in the trunk instead of lugging them on the bus. I can leave anytime I want without worrying about missing a bus. There is a Metro-North train line, but similar to the bus, it’s on a strict schedule and it’s usually inconvenient to get to without a car. I enjoy driving in Yonkers. There’s very little congestion, if ever and it’s always a breeze to get around.
Yonkers, NY Buying Tips
I was recommended by a friend to try Curry Honda in Yorktown Heights. At first I didn’t know what I wanted or needed so I was looking on the internet but couldn’t seem to figure it out. I would say, make a list of all the features that you would like to see in you potential car. Think about the style of the car your looking for, gas mileage, affordability, etc. Then, if you get a recommendation from someone, give it a try. I was so happy to be recommended to my car dealership. My salesman Stu was a delight to work with and very focused on getting something that met my needs as opposed to pushing me around to make a sale. If you can find a dealer that has your best interest, go with them and you won’t be disappointed because you’ll get exactly what you want, not what someone else is trying to push on you.
Favorite driving memory
My favorite memory of driving in Yonkers was on a warm summer night. I had just leased my car that day and I had my moon roof and windows open and just drove up and down the stretch of Central Park Avenue taking in the sites. I was by myself and decided to just go for a drive in my brand new car, stop at some stores, buy some things just because I wanted to and then drive home from the comfort of my own car. It was such a great feeling going from public transportation to my very own car.
Favorite road
Central Park Avenue. There are so many stores to stop and shop in. Additionally, there are great restaurants with nice views and a variety of different foods. There are traffic lights of course so you can't just zoom by, but there is rarely traffic and you can get a really nice ride.

Yonkers, NY Driving Tips
You can easily get lost. Some sections are very hilly and confusing for people not familiar with the territory. A GPS is very helpful and your cell phone in case you need to call for directions.
Yonkers, NY Buying Tips
There are car dealerships in Yonkers and in surrounding cities and towns. Depends on what you are looking for. I would use my internet to locate the various ones based on the car I was looking at.
Favorite driving memory
Favorite memory is picking up my daughter at nursery school. She and a friend went to a local nursery in a Jewish center. Her friend was a little Asian girl who lived across the street from us. There was no bus service since this was a private nursery school. The school was on the other side of the thruway where we lived and although a very short ride it was a necessary one to bring the girls home each afternoon. There was always plenty of anticipation on the afternoon drive there to hear how their day went and what new things they learned.
Favorite road
The Thruway. It was a fast way to reach other areas in Westchester and New York State. Wide open and fast if there are no traffic delays.
