2013 Chevrolet Sonic - Universal
When I decided to go car shopping, I started my investigation on what would fit my needs. I wanted something affordable for my lifestyle that would last me while getting the best deal. I read reviews and did my research. It came down to the Chevy Sonic. I plan on trading this one in for a new and current Chevy Sonic once I've paid the vehicle off.
Pros
Great gas mileage. I didn't need a power house. There was no reason for one. Four-cylinder is perfectly fine. I just needed something to get around town. It's compact enough to get into parking spaces that many could not. It's not too short that I have to worry that a lawn mower would threaten my life. It's perfectly spacious even for my 6'3" body. It's affordable at $9,000 which was like a steal for me. I like the color silver, and it just so happen to be available.
Cons
Well these vehicles, especially the Chevy Sonic, have a problem with the "purge valve." You can't top the tank often because then the gas fumes over load the purge valve causing a leak, drying up the seal and ultimately keeping your car from starting when you fill a tank. Meaning you'd have to spend $40-$50 to get the part and replace it yourself or have a mechanic do it for $140. It is a pain. Other than that I haven't had many issues.
2016 Chevrolet Sonic - It's an averages car
Overall, I like it. I originally bought it because I was on a budget, and it grew on me. Little things, like the name of the paint is Pull Me Over Red, make me smile. While most people around me drive Cadillacs and BMWs, my little Chevy doesn't have anything to prove, and it gets me and my dog where we need to go. It's a reliable car, and it has everything I need.
Story
I had to pick up a few 2x4s from Home Depot. I thought if I folded the back seat down, they'd fit inside with the trunk closed. So I'm out in the parking lot trying to cram these 2x4s into the car (I'm a 110-lb. female), and everyone is watching and half laughing. I'm frustrated and finally get it all in and closed and go to get in...I locked the keys in the trunk.
Pros
It's a great first car. There's built-in On Star and Bluetooth. Not a lot of get-up-an-go, so for a parent worried about reckless teenagers, it's great! Digital speedometer and reminders to change the oil every time you start the car. Semi-automatic shifter can be fun too.
Cons
Manual windows. No cruise control. Oh, and the manual windows.
