dependable, sturdy, fun
I love this car. The look and design are really great! It is a fun car to drive, quick handle, sturdy. For such a big car, it gets great gas mileage. I did have trouble with it starting when there was rain or snow, any type of damp weather. The engine was smooth running. It came with some amazing sound system. The speakers were fantastic. It accelerated extremely well. Before I knew it, I would be going 50 miles per hour. The handling was great on this vehicle as well Great brakes. The interior is beautiful with both leather and fabric. The dash was lovely and even almost 20 years later, no cracks in the dash at all. Few problems the first 10 years, but have had a few in the past couple of years. Ball joints worn, trouble with keeping fluid in radiator (overheating) and trouble with the accelerating device. However, still runs good and a very nice driving and riding vehicle.

It's surprisingly dependable for how cheap it is.
I bought my 1996 Mercury Cougar from someone online, and despite the age of the car, it's held up surprisingly well! Exterior-wise, the body has a slick, cool look to it that actually gets a few compliments. The Cougar runs and handles well despite its age and hasn't had any serious problems. As an older car, however, it's definitely a little shakier, has somewhat worse acceleration, and somewhat worse gas mileage. Also, I'm not a fan of the fact that it's a two door—letting people into the backseat is a pain. I'd call it a steady, dependable car but not a luxurious one, but reliability is what I wanted.

Quality car for American built and how old it was.
I own a 2001 Mercury Cougar. It is a manual and a 4 cylinder. It's a two door coupe that has a lot of space than you think. for being a 16 year old car, it's still running. My car has character, with patches silver but not the same color of the car silver and it has along edges and entire bottom but that's because of the winter weather road treatments here. It has about 185000 miles on it.
