Driving is not bad here and there is not a lot of traffic (compared to Chicago). Obviously there is more traffic during rush hour and Friday nights but it's not too bad. There are many ways to get from point A to point B so get to know the city well and you'll be able to get to your destination faster.

There are a lot of dealers in Rockford.. A lot off of east state st. I would recommend them because you can find the best deal on a car and you know the car is in good working order. If you have bad credit or not a lot of money, there are a lot of buy here pay here places as well. I think these cars are good cars as well but you might have to make weekly payments and pay a lot of interest. I wouldn't recommend Craigslist because you don't know how well the car works.

I was born and raised in Rockford so I know the city very well. My husband and I have been together for 9 years and have spent a lot of time, what he calls, "cruising". We drive aimlessly conversating for hours sometimes. At the beginning of the drive we might stop and get some tea or hot chocolate and we just drive around without having a destination. Most of the time we do this when it's dark outside. We drive to old neighborhoods, to parts of the city we have never been to (not that many anymore), and sometimes we just take one road and keep going so eventually we end up in the country roads surrounded by corn fields. Either way, those are my fondest memories because we have some great conversations.

E state st. I wouldn't say that this road is "amazing" but it runs from west to east and crosses the entire town. We live right off of east state near downtown so 99% of the time when we have to go somewhere, we have to get on this road to get there. I know this road like the back of my hand and I like the familiarity of it. It crosses through downtown and also through the commercial area where you can find all sort of different shopping stores and restaurants.

Many people in Rockford can be aggressive drivers, so it is best to be as defensive as possible when driving in this city. It is also good to be prepared for heavy traffic during rush hour.

During the winter Rockford is often a cold and snowy place, and when the winter is over it often leaves the roads in very bad shape. So it is always good to keep in mind the condition of the roads when you are deciding on the type of car you are deciding to buy and drive. It is a good idea to own a car that can drive in the harsh winters of Rockford, but also you don't driving on the roads here that are mostly in very bad condition.

My favorite experience that I have had driving in Rockford is when a few friends and I went to a so called "haunted road" located at the outskirts of the city. The myth is that if you drive down this road going west, passing a very old graveyard, you will be followed by another car. Sure enough, this seemed to happen to us when we did just that. It more than likely just a coincidence, and while scary, it was a exciting experience.

East State Street. I love to drive down E. State Street because of the large selection of different types of stores and restaurants in the area and along the street. Whether you are looking to get some food or just to do some shopping, you can find everything you are looking for just by going down E. State Street.
