Dakota, Awesome truck!
The vehicle I am reviewing is the 1997 dodge Dakota Extended cab SLT. This truck features a 5.2 liter V8, and 4 speed w/ overdrive transmission. I’ve had this vehicle for 10 years now and it is a trooper. It has had it issues, mostly transmission related, but is a fun truck to drive. The V8 has amazing pickup, and sounds great through all gears. This is a smaller pickup, but still looks larger than a ranger or s10. It handles like its much smaller than it is. If you own one of these trucks make sure to use the right coolant! If you do not, you will rust your engine from the inside out. The V8 engine in Dakotas can last for more than 200,000 miles easy. The transmissions are not as lucky. If you are easy on your transmission you will be lucky to get 150,000. My truck is on its third transmission.

GREAT
i have a 06 with a v6 Dakota and i do like it a lot there are a lot of pro's and a lot of cons i have to say i bought it used and the front end is not as good as it should be squeaks a lot and bushings need to be changed all the time same as ball joints. i have to say it has plenty of power but don't plan on pulling a heavy trailer up hill unless you want to use all your gas and be at 5000 rpm the whole time, its great for me hauling pallets and a lot of other things that i use it for i honestly think the truck is a 7 out of 10 because of the front end and the lack of power but other then that its a great mid sized truck i will choose Chevy next time though with a v8 also the steering shaft rusts a lot and needs to be replaced about 100k miles

My Truck
The truck is built strong and durable. The four wheel drive is a plus for towing and camping. The interior is easy to maintain and looks brand new after 40,000. The engine has a very satisfying, throaty V8 sound. The electronic door opener also locks and unlocks the tailgate. This is a great bonus. The quad cab has plenty of room inside and can seat six people, but is most comfortable with only four. Because it has a V8 engine the gas mileage is not the great, especially running errands around town.
