The Ford Explorer drives smoothly and has good gas mileage. I have driven over 70,000 and have never had an issue. The seats are very comfortable. The seats can be cooled or heated. This car is fuel efficient for an SUV.

Its really very spacious and comfortable without being a monster on the road. That's mainly what drove me to it in the first place. It has plenty of little pockets and storage spots plus a third row of seats that fold down flat. It does about as well as expected on gas as a vehicle in its size category and it still has a lot of get up and go. The first few years I had it were great, no problems whatsoever. Then the transmission went all to hell. I tried to back up my driveway that's on an incline and it refused to do it. I chalked it up to wet pavement and maybe a slightly bald tire, But no, slowly after that the reverse didn't want to work on flat areas either. First step is to check the transmission fluid right? Wrong! Not on this model. You have to drain and refill, there is no dipstick! Its nuts.
