Passing the Torch and Truck
My dad bought this truck new from the dealer in 2004. He is getting older now--and so I am. I bought it from him for a steal, with the agreement that I would do the hauling and heavy lifting for our family from now on. My previous car was an AWD station wagon, and I thought that it was a sturdy workhorse compared to my friends' cars. My F-150 made me rethink what a workhorse can be. I go backpacking fairly often, and this truck has opened new roads--literally. I've been able to reach trailheads I've never approached, and even coming down a dirt road through fords and into a flooded valley, I never felt that I was out of my depth or unsafe. It has been the vehicle my family takes on long trips for the last twelve years, and despite its utilitarian purpose, it has enough space for four people and all our gear. It's fared well through hard use and long ownership.

2002 Ford F-150 FX4
2002 Ford F-150 FX4 edition this vehicle has wonderful aesthetics inside and out! I have driven it 173,000 miles and absolutely no problems other than, like all Ford trucks, the front end pops when you turn sharp. Gas mileage isn't bad for V8 motor; I get about 16 mpg. Audio inside of truck is good; however, a downside is that there is no aux input. Driver seats often tear or are worn easily. Carpet interior makes cleaning difficult and staining easy. The bed of the truck is very accommodating for hauling. The truck has a lot of power and also has a four-wheel drive function that works really well. I have had no major issues, and I have not had to replace any major parts. I did have an issue with the gear shifter, but that was my fault, it was not a manufacturer issue. I go salt water fishing a lot, and I have a pretty large boat. The truck has no problem hauling the boat, loaded down with gear, and the trailer. I also have no problems putting the boat in the water and taking it out.

Workhouse that gets the job done.
I bought this truck because it had one original owner that never drove it, and being over 30 years old, it only had 63,000 original miles and was garaged for most of its life and never driven on winter roads. It has almost 90% of its original parts and starts right up. It doesn't have the luxuries of today, but it never lets you down on performance. I have hauled many things in this truck and driven it on road trips, and it hasn't failed me once. I love the nostalgia surrounding this truck, and I get a lot of looks and questions where ever I go. It's got a touchy carburetor and quite a personality, so if you don't know the truck, it will stall on you. I think that just adds to the charm. Every time I get in it, it feels like I've gone back in time. I only paid $2,000 for it, and I don't regret a penny spent.
