2002 Isuzu Rodeo - Reliable small SUV
We have had this car since 2002. The ride is "truck-like", but overall is comfortable. It is reliable. We have had only one major issue with it since we got it. The transmission failed, but the warranty from Isuzu covered the transmission which they replaced. It just took months to get it completely fixed as the transmission came from a factory in France! Replacement parts for this SUV are hard to find as Isuzu no longer makes cars and SUVs.

I took it on a sudden 5 day ski trip with just my very young kids on Christmas Day 5 hours away. Most of the gas stations were closed that day so I was sweating it when we got up north to Massachusetts and Vermont trying to find an open gas station and food, I finally found a gas station and we filled up on gas and snacks. It is reliable, only one major issue which was covered. The seat material has held up over the years. The seats are form and the material didn't wear away, For a SUV of that age, it gets decent gas mileage. It is practical and comfortable for a small family. The trunk area is spacious. Front and side visibility is good.

Isuzu is out of business so no brand original parts are available. There was a recall for a short time for rust on the frame. The ride is rough. The lift gate is in 2 pieces- the window goes up and the bottom goes to the side. It cannot be opened all in one movement. There is no center seatbelt in the rear seat and there is no 3rd row.

1999 Isuzu Rodeo - Just Awesome
My Rodeo has been the best thing I have owned with a engine, the seats all fold down flat so if you like camping you can actually sleep in the rodeo comfortably. The Isuzu rodeo has enough room to stack half a cord of cut fire wood, or if your nuts like me, you can actually stuff a snowmobile in this thing if you really need to.

I bought a snowmobile last year, and my trailer broke, so I drove my Rodeo to the persons place, and I stuffed the snow mobile in the back of the rodeo, with the front forks sticking out the window hatch, I drove 97 miles like that, no problem!

Tons of room in the back, rack on the top, and my model has a spare tire on the back door, not under the body, which is better in my opinion 210 horsepower is pretty good.
It also gets 20 miles to the gallon which for this size SUV, I think it's really good, from a 210 horse power v6.

2 Wheel drive only(this model) and sealed transmission, you can't just check your transmission fluid, you have to take it to someone for that, which is annoying, it's a rear wheel drive suv, so it's a little squirmy on snow if your not putting stuff in the back to weight the rear wheels down

2000 Isuzu Rodeo - Small SUV
I purchased my Isuzu Rodeo new in 2000. This vehicle fell into what I would consider a mid-price range. The monthly payments were affordable for my middle class family. The exterior paint is Alpine White and I wish now that I had chosen a prettier color. I am tired of the plain white finish and have always found that it shows dirt easily. This SUV performs well both in town and on the highway. Pick-up is a little sluggish. The car has 93,000 miles and, other than standard maintenance, no major repair work has been necessary. There is ample room in the passenger compartment with comfortable seating for five. I especially like being able to fold down the rear seats for extra space if it is needed. There is also a sturdy luggage rack on the roof if even more storage space is needed. The g... (more)

There is also a sturdy luggage rack on the roof if even more storage space is needed. The gas tank is on the driver's side which I like when gassing up. I believe it is safer to stay on my side of the vehicle when using a self pump. Unfortunately, as I am getting a little older now, I find that the vehicle sits high and it is becoming increasingly harder for me to climb in and out of it gracefully. The running board height is the main reason I will be trading in this car. I need something now that sits lower to the ground, with perhaps sliding side doors.
I live in a rural area in Southwest Georgia. Fire ants are predominant in this subtropical area. Ant nests in the yard can quickly reach diameters of several feet or larger and the little critters are quickly vicious if inadvertently disturbed. If you spray a nest, which can crop up in a matter of days like a weed, the insects typically just move over a little way and start burrowing again. I use my SUV to run over nest as I pull in and out of the yard. I just take aim and hit the nest head on with my left front tire. After a few pass overs I am finding that the little guys are moving on for good. I have to assume the constant tunneling became too much for them. Hurrah! I finally won!
1. Nice sound system.
2. Interior storage space.
3. Decent gas mileage.
4. Visibility is good which makes me feel safer, especially when driving on the Interstate.
5. Very little repair work has been needed.

1. Don't like the color I chose. Shows dirt quickly.
2. Doors are too high from ground. Hard to get in and out.
3. Don't like the fabric upholstery. Wish it was leather.
4. Radio antenna does not automatically telescope. Has to be screwed off before entering automatic carwash. Sometimes it loosens on the road and causes a rattle.
5. Pick-up is comparatively sluggish.
