Our 2001 Grand Cherokee has been an absolute pleasure to own and drive. Comfortable on the highway and confident on the trails, this Jeep is at home anywhere. We take this vehicle on camping trips into the mountains of Colorado. Four-wheel-drive with low range has never let us down. We can go everywhere we want to go without worry. Snowy roads in the winter are equally easy; engaging "full-time 4WD" is as simple as pulling a lever. This Jeep has an excellent four-wheel-drive system with the ability to select 2WD, part-time 4WD, full-time 4WD, neutral, and 4WD low range. The difference between part-time and full-time 4WD is whether or not the front and rear axles are "locked" together. Part-time 4WD locks the axles, forcing them to rotate at the same speed. Full-time 4WD sends power to both the front and rear axles but allows them to turn at different speeds. Using part-time 4WD on dry pavement will cause the tires to scrub, since the outer front tire travels further than the inner rear tire.

I love the power of this vehicle's v8 engine. I love the look of the vehicle - not too sleek, but not boxy. It drives pretty smoothly. It has held up well for being 15 years old. The fuel economy probably wasn't horrible at the time it was made, but 17 miles per gallon isn't very good in comparison with new cars. It's possible to fit a lot inside of the vehicle, and the vehicle itself is very versatile.
