Shreveport, LA Consejos de conducción
I would definitely suggest giving yourself plenty of time to get where it is you need to go, especially if you're not from the area and have not driven around Shreveport before. The workday commute times of day (weekday mornings before 10 am and afternoons from about 3 pm - 7 pm) can be VERY busy and traffic on major thoroughfares in the city such as Youree Drive, Line Avenue, Hearne Avenue, and Kings Highway can be just ridiculously stupid. The less you can drive through the city on surface streets, the better. I-20, I-220, and I-49 access most parts of town really well and will help you keep off the super crowded streets where you are very likely to run into traffic and stupidity that would piss off the pope. Also, if you see a funeral procession, no matter where you are driving or what time of day it is, you are expected to pull over to the shoulder of the road (if you have a thumpin stereo you need to turn that mess down) and failure to do so will very likely get you a ticket. It's just how they do things down there.

I thing the most important thing would definitely be to take your time and shop around. If you buy the first car you like at the first lot you visit, you are NOT going to get that good of a deal. Whatever it is you're looking for, I guarantee it is available on more than one car lot and if you don't visit at least 3-4 lots and compare prices, you might as well bend over and hand someone the K-Y. If your heart isn't set on one exact particular car, I would also highly recommend shopping the smaller lots, especially those located on the southern and western outskirts of town. Some are kinda sketchy (don't buy from them) but most are run by honest small business people and it is possible to find a REALLY good deal on a gently used car or truck by purchasing from one of these lots. I've bought a car and a truck from a lot down on Greenwood Road and I got an EXCELLENT deal on both. Not only that, but the vehicles I purchased were great runners I never had to spend a dime on other than routine maintenance.

No one ever believes me but this REALLY HAPPENED! I was driving south-bound down Milam or Crockett or whatever street that turns into Line Avenue just north of downtown (I can't remember which one but it's the one that goes right in front of the big Methodist church Texas street dead ends in front of.) It was kind of a cloudy day, and it was about 11 am on a weekday. I had driven to Shreveport from Vivian, LA and as I was going down Hwy 1 I noticed that the "W" in the Waffle House sign was burnt out, which meant that at night when it lit up it would say "affle House" instead of "Waffle House" and that struck me as funny because "affle" sounds a lot like "awful" so in a way, the defective "W" made the sign more truthful. (This is what I'm thinking about as I'm driving along.) So anyway, as I go over the little bridge just after the Mason's building, I notice what I think is a little girl running up the sidewalk on the other side of the street. But it's not a little girl, it's a midget lady and she is very ANGRY and yelling. That's when I notice there is a guy walk/running up the sidewalk a good 50' in front of her. She is chasing him, she is PISSED, and he looks SCARED. I know it's wrong but I laughed. That's when something on the other side of the street caught my eye so I glanced over and, I shit you not, THERE IS A BUILDING FULLY ENGULFED IN ROARING FLAMES. It wasn't like a skyscraper, but it was not exactly a small building either, it had to be 5-6 floors tall and take up maybe half a city block. It wasn't on the same street as I was driving on but it was very visible to traffic where I was because the road I was on was at the crest of one of Shreveport's 3 actual hills and the building was at the bottom of the hill and there were very few buildings or other obstacles between the road I was on and the burning building. I drove by it about 30 seconds before the fire department barricades went up. Holy cats, I went on to the bar and had a couple after that.

Clyde Fant Parkway. I love driving on the Clyde Fant Parkway, especially going north towards downtown. I usually get on the Parkway at E. King's Highway and head north toward downtown/I-220, as I live in Broadmoor and my sister lives in Haughton. Clyde Fant runs parallel to the Red River and even though it runs right through some of the most heavily populated areas of the city, you can't tell it because until you hit downtown all you see are trees and grass and glimpses of the River through the trees that line its banks. It's a really pretty, relaxing drive. It amazes me how few people use the Clyde Fant Parkway even though its been there for at least 35 years and was expanded to all the way to I-220 within the last 10-15 years. Taking Youree Dr/Spring St to I-20 might shave 5 minutes off a trip to Bossier and other points east, but if it's all about an extra 5 minutes I'll take Clyde Fant every time.

There are two main roads that will get you just about anywhere you want to go in the city without using the interstate. These roads are Youree Drive and 70th Street. 70Th Street can lead you to Texas and Youree Drive can lead you to Arkansas. Youree Drive runs north and south, while 70th Street runs east and west. My only suggestion is watch out for the cops and the road construction going on. Every corner you turn in this city right now has road construction, and they do not post much warning signage to give you awareness of it coming up soon. This keeps the cops busy and also has them out close to these areas all of the time now. That is my tip for the day on driving in this city.

There is one main Auto Mall in this city and it is on Bert Kouns. There you will find Honda, Toyota, Land Rover, Dodge, Ford, Chevy, Mitsubishi, Fiat, and pretty much any other typical dealer under the sun. Our market is higher priced than most markets around us so it is better to shop around first and see if you can get a better deal in Texas. If not, paying cash is the way to go because you can bring the price down more. It is better to know someone who works at the dealership if you want to get a good deal as well. There is also another Chevy dealership a few miles from there on Youree Drive. Craigslist is another good source but I would research the car history before making a purchase.

I was driving in Shreveport and I was in my husband's red convertible Mazda Miata with a friend. We dropped the top and headed to Shreve City to a daiquiri shop. It is a standard and I don't normally drive a standard but this car is fun to drive! Its like driving a little go cart. The view was amazing going over the Red River Bridge and the air was so crisp. You can hear every little noise and feel the humidity when it hits your face and smell everything from exhaust to flowers. It just made me feel alive. When we arrived to the daiquiri shop, we put the top up and headed in. We ordered 6 daiquiris "to go" from my friends sister and sat and played video poker for a minute. A few minutes into the game a cousin of my friend came in and we began talking to her. After about 20 minutes we headed back out to the car. Dropped the top again and resumed our fabulous trip back home.

151 E. Ratcliff St. My favorite road to drive is Gilbert Drive. The reason why I like this road is because it is very scenic and at the end is a huge hill that we call thrill hill. The neighborhood that this road goes thru is very eclectic and a mixture of houses from 1920's to 1970's. All of the houses are beautiful to look at on the street especially during the holidays. Two even play music to the Christmas lights that you tune into a radio station to listen to. Thrill hill is so much fun to go down especially when you are having a great day, but you have to be careful of the people working out. This is their favorite place to work out because it is so intensive. The street also passes a walking park that surrounds a bayou. Sometimes it has water and sometimes it does not. There are people walking around this park at all hours of the day. This street is very nice to drive on.
