Overall, the Prius has been fun to drive, especially on family trips. It gets great mileage and handles hills better than I'd expected, even lots of hills like driving through Oregon's coast range. It averages around 45 miles per gallon, though I expect it would have better mileage if we drove it more in heavy traffic. The power mode feature is useful for handling hills or needing to accelerate to get onto the freeway, and the eco mode is useful for driving in heavy stop and go traffic. It holds a lot more than we'd expected, especially with the seats folded down. The one downside is that the braking feels very rough and sudden. I suspect that it's because of the mechanism that uses the brakes to power the battery. Applying what would be normal pressure to the breaks on another vehicle... (more)
Historia
Our family's first trip with the Prius. We took it on a hundred-plus mile drive to the Oregon coast this winter. It performed very well, even driving through the coast range through some small amounts of snow.
A Favor
Great mileage. Optional power mode for going up hills or rapid acceleration. Pretty good storage space for a small car. Handles well, with a tight turning radius. No mechanical/performance issues. Adaptor hooks up iPod directly to speakers. Can turn it off and on with a button.
En Contra
Very rough braking - you have to be very careful about how much pressure to apply when breaking so you don't jolt the passengers. Gas mileage not quite as good as the 50 mpg that's often advertised for a Prius. The beeping sound it makes when backing up that I haven't figured out how to turn off is seriously annoying. Sits very low to the ground, which can be challenging on steep hills or roads with a lot of pot holes.

2014 Toyota Prius - Perfect commuter vehicle

The Toyota Yaris has numerous good qualities. To start, the car is very attractive. I bought a two door in white, and I get compliments on its sleek and cute style all the time. It is small but not confining. There is plenty of trunk space, which for me was a huge plus. In addition to the sizable trunk, the interior of the car is very roomy. It is a small car, minus the small car feel. The car runs great and is perfect for commuters.
Historia
I drive this car everyday, and it has been a great experience. I recently decided to really test it out by taking it on a mini road trip. I drove ten hours to California to visit friends and family. The drive was long, but my Yaris made is a comfortable experience.
A Favor
My biggest concern when shopping for a car was whether I would be able to have a smaller car for an easy commute but not have to give up trunk space. The Yaris met this requirement. For how small this car is, the trunk is surprisingly big. And the inside is very roomy. The backseat is larger than expected, and I never feel cramped.
En Contra
My biggest complaint about this car is that the front passenger does feel a lot during the ride. Every bump in the road is felt, and that can get annoying for whoever is riding in the passenger seat. This is something that the other seats in the car don't experience, so I don't find it to be a bid deal, but it is a clear negative.
