Worth it!
We bought our RAV4 from a friend after we had a car accident. Immediately, we noticed that the cockpit was very roomy and that the transmission shifts very smoothly. With a six-cylinder EFI engine, it accelerates quickly. It also comes with a six-CD changer and a decent factory stereo system. Fast forward a few years, and now, we get to see the true value of the car, after it has some heavy miles and usage. The pros of the RAV4 Sport, even years later, is that it still gets relatively good fuel mileage for a six cylinder and still has ample pick up. The body has held up well, even after a couple of mishaps. The cons of the older RAV4 Sport is that when it shows its age, bad things happen. We later found out that there were many recalls on this vehicle and have to have it taken in to the dealership every few months, despite its age. We also found that the rear main seal is giving out, which costs approx. $3K to replace an $8 part. We've also had to replace the shocks, struts and multiple sensors along the way. But, in its defense, most vehicles with normal "wear & tear" will need replacement parts after about ten years. Overall, if you keep this vehicle well maintained (within reason), it will continue to serve you very well. I would suggest it to others.

Reliable, small SUV. Good buy overall.
The 2006 RAV4 Sport has some good and some bad qualities overall. The bad qualities are not a deal breaker for me, as I am utilitarian when it comes to my vehicle choices. The 2006 RAV4 is a bit of a noisy and rattily vehicle, but its fuel efficiency is good, especially considering the vehicle year. Overall, the vehicle has been very reliable. I have had to make minimal repairs and do minimal maintenance to keep it running well and in good shape. I have the upgraded sound package with the subwoofer, but I would not recommend that upgrade for the 2006 RAV4. The subwoofer has gotten a little static-y, so I have to keep the bass turned down, and it sometimes rattles. I have the cargo net and trunk shade. Those extras are very handy, but they do add to the rattle of the vehicle when in place. The bucket seats are not very comfortable, but that does not bother me too much. The vehicle is easy to drive, maneuver, and park. Living in Southern California, I also like that the vehicle is higher off the road, as that increases my visibility when driving. Oh, and I did I mention it has a moon roof? I love that. These things— combined with the reliability and fuel efficiency—are good enough for me.
