2007 Toyota Yaris - Great small car.
The Toyota Yaris S is a great hatchback that is a available at an even better price. It is entry level and Toyota's cheapest car yet gets 45+ miles per gallon on the highway. I've been driving to work for many years now and haven't had any maintenance issues. It is not a luxury vehicle, but it is definitely a great commuter car for someone less worried about a car as a status symbol rather than a mode of transportation.
Historia
A few months ago my fiancee and I decided to take a trip to Sequoia National Forest with our dog Judith. We wanted to make sure we had a good time camping, so we planned to load up the Yaris but would also need a lot of room for our dogs kennel since Judith is a large German Shepherd. We were amazed that all of our chairs, coolers, and other supplies were able to fit inside of our Yaris -- w... (more)
A Favor
Incredibly gas mileage. Very inexpensive. Foldable seats for more room than a standard vehicle. Low cost of maintenance. Very small so easy to park. Easily maneuvered in small areas.
En Contra
Not comfortable. Small...might not be the safest in an accident. Looks a bit goofy compared to other cars on the road.
2008 Toyota Yaris - Basic commuter
If you're looking for a vehicle to get you from A to B, then a Yaris could not be any better. I often call it a golf cart with doors because of its basic features, yet zippy nature. There really isn't much to complain about; it gets the job done, but the Yaris does leave a little for the heart to desire in terms of comfort and performance.
Historia
Zipping around the foothills in Orange County is a lot of fun in this little compact. It may not have passing power, but at higher RPMs there is some power to be found, especially in the low gears.
A Favor
The basic trim level comes with some amenities that other basic trims lack: powered locks, powered windows, and a CD player/AUX input. The speakers, while soft, do sound nice and level even the bass is respectable. Gas mileage is also a plus with an average of ~30 miles a gallon. For a car that could fit into nearly any parking spot, it can also fit a surprising amount of things into the interior and trunk. The rear seats fold 60/40 and almost completely flat. So, yes hauling a five-shelf dresser is completely possible.
En Contra
It is very clear that this car is designed for two different countries. The speedometer sits in the middle of the dash rather than in front of the driver, and the cupholders are placed on either side of the dash instead of under the center console. Unfortunately, when those cupholders are used, the air vent behind them is then blocked. In my personal opinion, the digital gas gauge is not a good representation of the amount of gas in the car; a standard dial would ease some unwanted anxiety when on road trips.

2007 Toyota Corolla - John Elways Crown Toyota Scion Ontario
I went in there as a new buyer with no credit. They were able to give me a good deal that fit within my budget, and they were really cool about it. They also had a nice selection of cars, and didn't pressure me on any of the upsells. While I'm happy with the car and the deal they gave me, I'm extremely pleased with their customer service. They really go out of their way to treat you well and make you feel like you're getting a great deal.

I was able to shop online for my car, and did all the price negotiating in this manner. Once I found a car that matched the price I was willing to pay, it was a simple matter of going to the dealership, signing the contracts, and driving home in my new car. It was a very pleasant and easy experience.
