The Ford Escape was (still is) my first SUV. I do like how pretty compact it is compared to other SUVs. I'm on the shorter side in height, so this was great. It's pretty stylish and has a unique body style. You can definitely point out the Ford Escape from a mile away. Another added bonus is that it's pretty great on gas mileage. I get about 350 miles from a full tank of gas. One downfall if you have children is that it does not comfortably fit three car seats in the back. We've tried multiple brands and styles and finally got one way to work, but it cracked the door handle. I do like the size of the trunk though. We managed to fit one single and one double stroller pretty easily. I also like how well the interior has held up, and it's also easy to clean. And, of course, my favorite pa... (more)
Story
A fun memory we have in the Ford Escape is when we would take the kids dinosaur fossil digging. When we were done and ready to head back, we'd open up the trunk hatch and let them change into clean clothes. They had ample space, and I didn't have to worry about the car seats getting filthy.
Pros
Keyless entry. Spacious trunk. Good gas mileage. Unique body style. Good quality interior.
Cons
Not very big for people needing lots of space. Cannot comfortably fit three car seats in a row.

The 2016 Escape feels like a much larger vehicle than it is. The ride is firm but smooth. The Sync 3 system is a huge improvement over the previous version. I have about 2k miles on mine, and so far, there have been no problems. I have the AWD with the 1.6 L Turbo engine. Even with the turbo, acceleration is lacking. I would recommend looking at the 2.0 L options if this is important to you. MPG has been averaging 25-27. Other than the poor acceleration, this is a great car.
Story
The space in the back is huge! I and the dog can sleep in the back on long trips. The 2.5 engine with the kick-but tranny is fabulous. It can tow up to 1,500 pounds stock, which works for my camper and my motorcycle trailer.
Pros
The vehicle is overall pretty good. Drives fast and has good acceleration for an SUV. Mine is the turbo 1.6 version. Not sure how much of a difference it would be to not have that engine. I've put on 27,000 miles, and I get 24.1 mpg driving as of today. All highway going almost always 70 or more. Rarely in traffic. There isn't much cargo room, so if you have a family, you should get the Explorer.
Cons
One of our few issues with the current-generation Escape has been the finicky operation of its optional MyFord Touch infotainment system, built with Microsoft know-how but plagued from birth by significant usability issues.
