2005 Ford Explorer - Decent vehicle at first, but has needed constant repairs over time
Overall I rate this vehicle 3/5. My Ford Explorer has lasted me quite some time. It has nearly 150,000 miles on it since 2005. The car performs okay for most needs and gets me for point A to point B, but most of the parts on the interior of the car are very cheaply made.
Story
I have taken several road trips in this vehicle with friends. Although it is super costly to drive this vehicle long distances, it fits 5 comfortably compared to smaller cars so it made the trip comfortable for all my friends.
Pros
Pros:
- This vehicle is excellent in the snow! If you live somewhere where it will eventually snow, this vehicle definitely pays off as it gets around very well.
- It automatically switches to 4x4
- You can fit 5 people comfortably in this vehicle
Cons
Cons:
- Awful gas mileage. This thing is a hog and get 14mpg, and around 17mpg highway.
- Everything on it is cheaply made and starts to break from normal use. The rear windshield fluid dispenser stopped working. The back window hatch plastic paneling is defective and cracks down the middle (this was common on this model, yet there was no recall. There were even instances of the back window literally falling out due to poor design)
- The metal pieces on the back window also started to rust for no reason - they are on the inside of the window)
