2000 Ford Ranger - Hard working
I've always liked driving it in the winter with the 4x4. I've never gotten stuck. The coldest I've ever started the vehicle was at 0 degrees, and that was last winter when I went to visit a friend in up state. Always been a good running truck, and the biggest reason I'm needing to get rid of it, is cause I need a newer pickup for the work.
Story
My dog always like ridding in the back. It's not too high for her. One time I hit a pothole, she must have had flew 10 feet up.
Pros
Never gotten stuck in the vehicle and both 4-wheel high or low and handles in the snow fairly handlers off-road very well while doing farm work.
Cons
It's a short bed. So being a smaller pickup when you hit things pot holes and such other obstacles, you could really feel when you would hit them.
1995 Ford Ranger - Great for hauling almost anything
I really like this truck. It has had a few reliability issues (see problems) but nothing huge. The four cylinder gets great gas mileage (around 28 mpg on the highway). It's a little slow but still works fine for hauling and towing. The interior is pretty minimal, but it's easy to clean and maintain (vinyl seats help a lot). Visibility is good, which sure helps for towing. Also, the headlights illuminate very well. The transmission (five-speed manual) shifts well and has good gear spacing. The ride is a little stiff with no weight in the bed but not harsh. Snow traction is a problem without snow tires. The bed is plenty long to haul most common appliances, furniture, and big-box items. It's much lower than a full-size truck, so it's easier to load stuff. Overall, it has been a very usef... (more)
Story
I have used this truck to haul around a lot of appliances, such as stoves, washers, driers, etc. One time, I had to transport an extra height refrigerator, and I was surprised that I could load it on its side into the bed without lowering the tailgate. This truck really has a long enough bed for most things.
Pros
Good gas mileage for a truck, especially compared to new models. Very good visibility (with the regular cab) and outstanding headlights. Transmission shifts well, as long as it's not too cold. Nice simple interior but still plenty of features and easy to clean. Large bed for such a small truck.
Cons
Somewhat slow to accelerate, at least with the four cylinder. Transmission is a little stiff in extremely cold weather. Not very good winter traction with rear-wheel drive and no limited slip rear axle.
