Great family car.
This car is without doubt, 100%, by the cliché country mile, the best car in its class. With 300,000 miles I have never once had to do ANY work to this car. I bought it new in 01 and never even parked it in a garage. I have owned other cars in this class and none are anywhere near as good. My Camry started having trouble just after 125k miles and died just before 200k, and my accord died at 175k. I did however have a Nissan that also made it to 300k miles before the expense to repair it exceeded the KBB value. That is when I consider a car dead and junk it. However, that Nissan was not as powerful, not as comfortable, not as easy to drive, not as safe, and parts came from Japan so it cost more to maintain. On my Taurus with the cruise set at 70 I get between 35 and 38 mpg on the Freeway and have gotten 150k miles on each set of brakes too. Now some people will tell you that they had to have a transmission rebuild or replacement. Now as a well read, multiple car owner and gear head, I know why that is. Most cars the seals will last years and many thousands of miles longer than they will on the Taurus. Now that is in fact an issue with Ford's seals but it in no way caused their transmission problems.

OK for the price.
If you are a looking for a car that has mediocre written all over it then this is definitely the car for you. there is nothing really special about this car at all, in fact it is run of the line as you can possibly get. It has a great AM/FM stereo and cassette tape player. If you still are looking for a great use for cassettes then this might be the kind of make and model you want to go with. In fact, if you are into using CD's like a normal person might do, or some kind of MP3 device, you could get a cassette adapter and make it play any kind of other music on the stereo.

A workhorse of a car.
I'm on my second Ford Taurus and my third Ford car so I'm familiar with the brand and it doesn't disappoint. It's build sturdy and it incredibly simple to repair. Yes you can still perform much of your own maintenance on a vehicle like this and feel satisfied that you don't need to know rocket science to get it right. The car has nearly 300,000 miles on it and is showing no signs of slowing down. The power systems are in working order and the ride is as smooth as ever. The engine pull as strong as the first day I drove it four years ago and I’ve put over 100,000 miles on it with as little as $2,000 in repair cost in that time. It’s understandable why this was a car order by the thousands for fleet usage. The interior and trunk are huge. With regular checkups and a little elbow grease I'm sure it easily has another 100,000 miles to go. It also seems to have gotten slightly better on gas mileage that the manual suggests or that could just be my wishful thinking, but it's great to have a car that even after 15 years still runs so well.
