Our Nissan Rogue is a fantastic car for our small family. The back seat is roomy enough to fit the kids with their booster seats without fighting over whose arm goes where. It has a USB slot for charging your phone/iPod, which also connects your device to your stereo for hands free calling. The built in navigation system may leave a little to be desired (I lived in a rural area and it said my street didn't exist), but for the most part it will get you where you need to go. Decent gas mileage. We recently drove half way across the country with it, and needed relatively few stops.
Pros
Rearview Camera USB and Bluetooth device integration Good gas mileage Roomy back seat
Cons
Built in navigation is a little bit clunky Only one USB slot, we have multiple devices.

I chose to review my 2002 Honda Accord because of the high quality of the vehicle. I was skeptical when I originally purchased the car in September of 2002 solely based on the fact that I had only owned American made vehicles before that time. My venture into the foreign made side has left a long-term impact on my family and me. I will say that the LX version, in my opinion, is one of the best value sedans on the market. The fuel economy is outstanding even in stop-and-go city traffic. I routinely average around 35+ miles to the gallon. While one may opt to go for a higher end model of this car, I am extremely satisfied with the build quality of the LX. I will say that as I approach the 300,000 mile mark, I rarely ever hear a squeak, rattle, or even a whimper. Also, to my knowledge, th... (more)
Story
I had only had the car a couple of months when a friend talked me into taking it on a trip thru a drive-thru wildlife preserve. At one point, several rams and goats came up to the car for us to feed. They bumped up against the car with their horns, hooves, etc. To the point that it made me sick to my stomach. I just knew they had ruined the exterior of my new car! Once we were safely off the p... Pros
Great fuel economy Limited repairs over the course of the vehicle life Quality workmanship - great sewing on the interior seats Small part reliability (door handles, seat handles, knobs, etc.) Pop-down door leading to trunk Fold down back seat leading to trunk Limited recalls Great resell value High exterior paint quality "They just don't break"
Cons
Different color ground effects for the LX version (May car is grey and ground effect under doors is black) LX version also only comes with hubcaps instead of custom rims

2001 Honda Accord - Nearing 200k miles and still going strong

This 2001 Honda Accord LX belonged to my cousin before I purchased it from her and already had 175k miles on the odometer. I have since put another 15k miles on it and have not had any mechanical issues whatsoever. It is the most basic model so it does not have many creature comforts like power windows or locks, but the A/C still blows cold air and it runs every time I need it to. The engine is still powerful and responsive enough to enter a highway and make passes at speed. With so many miles on the transmission, it has trouble when travelling at 60+mph for extended periods of time and will overheat after 3 hours or so. However, it doesn't stall or leave me stranded. The case of the transmission just heats up to a point where the gunk on the outside of it starts to burn off causing ... (more)
Story
A colony of ants has moved in to the inner workings of the car. They aren't fire ants so I just let them be.
Pros
The stereo sounds very good for being the most basic trim option. The seats are not luxurious, but they are comfortable and there is enough leg room in the back seats for two adults to sit without discomfort. The trunk is large enough to fit two fully packed 50L backpacks with room to spare. The most outstanding merit of this car is the mechanical longevity. It has lasted 15 years with only standard maintenance such as fluid changes and tire rotations and has not required a major repair.
Cons
Manual locks make it easy to lock your keys in the car or trunk and are overall inconvenient. For extended trips of over 5 hours the seats have hot spots of pressure that cause your buttocks to go numb if you don't take frequent breaks. The cons for this specific trim level are not the fault of the vehicle design itself and are remedied by including extra options.
