I love my Honda Civic sedan. I've had it for five years. I made my final car payment a few months ago. It has over 100,000 miles on it, and it has never left me stranded. It has a four-cylinder engine, but it doesn't struggle going up hills. The body is sturdy. It has a few nicks and dings in it. That goes along with regular wear and tear. It has held up beautifully otherwise. Other than a tear in the drivers side seat, the interior still looks great.
Story
I have two large dogs who often ride in the back seat of this car to go to the vet or the dog park. One of them has notoriously long nails, and no matter how short I cut them, they are always sharp. His sharp nails have never pierced through the seat fabric. I just vacuum the car when he gets out, and you'd never know he was there. Two 80-lb dogs fit in the backseat perfectly, and the car alwa... (more)
Pros
I love both the look and the feel of this car. I like the size of the car too. I'm a 5'3, 155 lb. female, and I fit perfectly. The seat is the right height for me. I travel relatively short distances with three other people, and we all fit well. It gets about 30-35 miles per gallon, which is fantastic.
Cons
My car was a base model, so it didn't come with any extras. My car didn't come with a radio. I had one installed. My car didn't come with floor mats. I bought some. My car didn't come with automatic locks, so I still use a key. You don't realize how much you miss that until your hands are full of grocery bags and you're reaching for a key. You can't just push a button and unlock the doors like everyone else in modern civilization. Also ,the driver's side seat has a five-inch hole at the side seam.

2013 Honda Civic - Affordable, Efficient, and Oddly Intimidating

The 2013 Civic is great for the cost and the efficiency. When I was shopping for a new car, I was really blown away by how many seemingly excessive new odds and ends seem to be in new cars lately. For example, I thought the rearview camera was really stupid, but it actually saves me so much time. The overall organization of the dashboard is pretty intuitive. The Bluetooth interface is fantastic, having controls uninvasively located on the steering wheel for access without depriving attention. Oil changes and other minor maintenance are no big deal.
Story
I love my car, but I personally think that the "face" of the car is abnormally hostile-looking, especially for a Civic. I named mine "Carface." Most cars from this level of economy/cost have pretty generic "faces," but the 2013 Civic looks like it's gritting its teeth for some reason. I'm not crazy, go look it up.
Pros
The car comes with an econ setting, meaning that you can hit this mode and it will regulate fuel usage for efficiency as you drive. I usually have it on as I've seen it make a relatively significant difference in fuel usage. The car also has great safety ratings, but I hope I never have to learn more about that first-hand. The passenger seats are spacious.
Cons
I would never trade this car for my old one, but one thing that occasionally bothers me is how the car handles acceleration, which can become apparent when driving down the highway. The econ setting also affects the ability to accelerate quickly and I often shut it off when I'm on the highway. The car doesn't seem to comfortable for taller people, but the seats are adjustable.
