My husband bought this as a surprise for our 10 year anniversary. I had previously driven a 1997 Jeep Cherokee that I loved, but was getting old and we had given it to out 16 year old daughter. I was surprised by the difference in handling. My old Jeep was a tank, and required physical effort to steer. The Patriot was like driving a car. The Patriot was also a lot roomier, but had almost the same storage capacity. It took a while to adjust to the CVR transmission but once I got used to it, I liked it. I was a little disappointed that it did not have the power of my old Jeep, but it had better maneuverability. It is very easy to drive, and I like the features like heated seats and all the controls on the steering wheel. It is decent on gas. I have had problems with the sensors on the t... (more)
Story
We have taken this jeep on a number of vacations along the east coast, and have never had any issues at all. It's an overall good vehicle.
Pros
The best things are the features like heated seats and steering wheel control buttons. I liked the roominess and storage capacity. The Jeep handles nicely, and gets decent gas mileage. I also really like the color, blackberry frost.
Cons
I think it needs a more powerful engine. I dislike the sensor issues, especially since they are extremely expensive to replace.

Overall, the Jeep Patriot is a shoddy entry in the Jeep lineup. Build quality is not up to par with Jeep's famous 4X4 reputation, nor is it rugged enough to go off-road. I enjoy that the vehicles shape and design is a bit of a throwback to the Jeep Cherokee's of the 80's and 90's, that so many Jeep owners still adore.
Story
I drove it with a group of friends all the way south to Florida for Spring Break.
Pros
The appearance was similar to that of it's predecessor, the fabled Jeep Cherokee. The interior was, overall, fairly roomy for a smaller sized SUV. It is a Jeep, so the off-road quality is still fairly high. The price is another particularly good point of the vehicle, as the entry MSRP is rather low and affordable for a 4X4 SUV.
Cons
Although it is a Jeep, the 4X4 off-road capabilities are often outclassed by other midsized SUVS. Some of the interior feels as though it was made from cheap, flimsy plastic components instead of having any real resilience to a rough owner. The cargo capacity of the Patriot suffers as a result of the entire car being so much smaller than most SUVS, do not expect to carry a car load of people and some camping supplies in it.
