The vehicle looks great outside and rides pretty high off the ground. The front and side front windows are a little low with visibility from the waist up if you were standing outside the vehicle looking in. Gets a lot of looks with the aftermarket 22-inch rims and tires. Overall, it's a fun car but has many challenges.
Story
Driving in the mountains taking it through deep water in four-wheel drive without any issues or worry that it would stall or become flood damaged after the recent heavy rains. It's the perfect road trip vehicle.
Pros
Car runs well. Easy to hide all the wiring after installing DVD player, two DVD screens behind both front seats. The frame seems strong with a low accident fatality rate for the disco. I added some 22" rims and it looks and rides great. The engine runs strong and plenty of room in the back with the stadium seating.
Cons
It needs paint since the hood and roof have the clear coat eaten away from the ocean weather. The check engine light is always on. It constantly leaks oil and coolant. The ride is a little bumpy, and the interior is very loud especially on the freeway. There is not enough leg room for the driver. The steering wheel only tilts about half an inch in both directions. Low resale value compared to the purchase price. Parts are really expensive, and they are sold as a complete unit instead of purchasing the part that broke. The back door leaks, and I have no idea why. It only gets about 17 miles... (more)

I purchased this car new and have driven it just over 200,000 miles. It was a replacement for a pickup I traded in. This is very comfortable to operate, extremely reliable, and wonderful in the winter. This is not an economy car! I get about 20 miles/gallon. I prefer the door on the back instead of a hatch, since it is easier to use with packages.
Story
I took this car to a picnic last August at a ski area. There were trails used by the resort to service the lifts and runs that were open to our use. My friend had brought his Hummer. The Hummer broke down 5 miles from the resort but it was no big deal for my car to tow it out. We were very generous with the pictures of the Discovery pulling his Hummer!
Pros
First, the car is very easy for a tall person to enter and exit. Second, I like the storage area when the seats are up as well as when the seats are down. I live in an area where snow is very common and love the way this car gets around in bad weather. I have taken as many as five people for long drives and everyone was comfortable.
Cons
This is not an economy car and getting it repaired is more expensive than our other car. Parts can be very hard to find or very expensive.

The 1995 Land Rover Discovery was a unique vehicle for me. It had a lot of space (head space) and was extremely roomy inside. Leather seats felt very comfortable, and I really enjoyed feeling as if I had a lot of space. However, the Land Rover barely worked. I always had it in the shop dropping at least $1,500-$1,800 a time due to its faulty engine. I miss the space, but I do not miss the money pit it was. I hope the new Land Rovers are better.
Story
I remember cruising along the freeway listening to my music and driving around the city. It felt great.
Pros
Space--you have a lot of space in this vehicle, in the trunk, overhead and in the seating. I really enjoyed that fact, and it was made it worth to have owned it for a while. I especially enjoyed the big windows all around the car.
Cons
The biggest negative about this vehicle was the fact that it was extremely expensive to maintain and that it always broke down. For such a nice vehicle, I could not understand why it never worked very well. Whether the starter or the engine, I just could not keep up with how much it was in the shop. Gas was expensive $80 to fill up.
