When looking for a new car, my biggest checklist items were: reliability, gas mileage, technology and the "cool" factor. The Mazda3 checked all of those for me. The previous year body style was what I considered one of the ugliest cars on the road, resembling more of a plastic toy, but upon seeing the new redesigned 2014's, it was an instant attraction. My first test drive of a lower trim model was unimpressive. The S-touring had the whole technology package as well as sport mode... the "cool" factor.
Story
For being classified as a compact car, it sure can haul a bunch of junk. I was able to move my entire apartment in just 3 trips by putting the back seat down and utilizing the trunk space.
Pros
The gas mileage is excellent. I can achieve up to 40 MPG highway. The technology is under appreciated. Having the option to connect phone and music via Bluetooth or USB was a big must-have and is used every time I drive, with no effort.
Cons
The nav system isn't incredibly intuitive. I've been told it's easy to use once you get used to it, but I usually just end up using my phone's GPS. The scaling speed of the windshield wipers seems to go from light misting to torrential downpour jumping just one notch up. Sometimes the infotainment system doesn't sync music correctly. I imagine this could be an effect of constantly changing mobile phone platforms.

The Mazda 3 offers the best off all worlds for a price most can afford. The 2016 Mazda 3 has some of the power of a sports car, high fuel efficiency, and some of the up scale features and looks of a luxury car all for under $30,000. The sunroof and Bose sound system options were selected for the optional add-on features to really round out the car and customize it to your preferences.
Story
I tend to buy a new car and drive it into the ground. Before purchasing this vehicle last year, it had been since 2004 that I had something new. Going from a cheap lower-end car from 2004 to a solid, mid-range performer took a lot of getting used to. I am not a manual reader so figuring out all the new bells and whistles has been an adventure.
Pros
Great Gas Miles (One of the best for non hybrid/electric cars available). With the Sky track transmission, you still get a sporty feel to the car. Loaded with features (back-up cam, on-dash screen, etc.). Sun/Moon Roof.
Cons
Can get a little pricey, especially with the add ons.

They gave us a great deal, were flexible with financing and made sure we walked away with a great car that we were comfortable with at a good price. The interest rate was high but our dealer knew that was okay because our situation allowed us to pay our car off early.
