The Subaru Forester is a bit of a jack-of-all trades. With 4 doors and a hatchback it's able to haul multiple kids and their equipment to and from hockey practice. However, it does that without being a sprawling SUV or a minivan. It's got enough pep for its practical side but if you're looking for a really fun car, this isn't it. The interior is functional but not flashy, with solid visibility and perfectly acceptable comfort. The car is a bit generic in terms of looks (it took me a while to recognize it in the parking lot when I first got it) but it's not ugly. I haven't had any real problems with it, so I'm pleased with that. It's a functional, practical car. It does that well. Being sexy and fun, not so much. But for my needs, that's currently fine.
Story
I pulled through a drive-thru, on my own, when the car was relatively new. The cute girl at the window said, "Nice car." I didn't know if she was being facetious or just flirting with me or if she really liked the car that much. Regardless, for a middle-aged guy like me it pretty much justified the car purchase.
Pros
It's got a good amount of storage space for the size of the car. You don't have to buy a minivan to be able to pack the kids and luggage into the car and take a trip. Good visibility. No mechanical problems as of yet.
Cons
Not quite as much power as I would like. Fuel economy is a bit less than I'd hoped, though it's not bad. Interior is a little spartan.

I have really put this SUV through its paces. I commute 32 miles each way, and I have only had to do routine maintenance, battery, and oil. The cargo room is fantastic. I was able to get 11 big boxes in it, have room for two passengers, and still see out the back window. The all-wheel drive is awesome; I keep traction in all kinds of weather. Since this is the first SUV I've owned, I had to get used to the higher center of gravity. But now I don't even notice that, and I've taken some sharp turns.
Story
It's still fun to drive on the highway, and I've had my Forester for over a year now.
Pros
I love how much cargo room I have. I've looked at other SUVs in its class, and the Forester is much bigger. I see the entire road well, since it stands so tall. I put a lot of miles on the Forester, and I haven't had any trouble; I just change the oil regularly. It's by far the most comfortable road-trip car I've ever owned.
Cons
The factory speakers are a little tiny at higher volumes, especially with dance music.
