As a mother of two, I was looking for a vehicle that could haul kids and stuff with decent gas mileage for all the driving I do. However, I wanted a car I could be excited about. The Ford Explorer was just that! It definitely isn't a "mom" vehicle. I love the look of it and its presence. The car runs well and has good gas mileage for a large vehicle (the i4 cylinder engine improves the gas mileage). It was everything I wanted in a car.
Story
I really like driving it to CrossFit because the other people at my gym have large cars, so I finally feel like I fit in.
Pros
It looks nice, and the interior is very comfortable. It gets good gas mileage and has more storage than most vehicles in its SUV class. I also like the added air conditioning in the third row and that the back can control its own air and heat. I also like the back-up camera. I love how sleek this car is as well and the fact that it has Sirius satellite capabilities. That is a huge feature for me now.
Cons
It feels big, which took me awhile to get used to. The seats do not fold down easily to get to the third row. Sometimes, when I push on the gas, it sounds like the engine isn't fully going. That is concerning. Some of the cup holders are not useful. They are too small to hold a cup of any size. Also, the upholstery color is not the best for small children. Think something the color of dirt would be best.

I drive a 2002 Ford Explorer XLT with a V8. It's a get up and go kind of truck, has leather interior, was in great condition when I got it three years ago. It's heavy on the gas consumption but cruises, and at 245k miles, it still has many to go. It has third-row seating with both the second and third rows droppable.
Story
I have fun almost every time I drive. Having a V8, pedal to the metal, zoom.
Pros
The engine is heavy duty, sounds so excellent. I change my oil often and with the good stuff because I baby it with 245k miles. I drive it almost daily because I deliver for Amazon in it. I haven't needed much maintenance on it, other than routine, and what isn't routine will be in the cons. The cons are tiny and don't make a difference.
Cons
Top negative are even hard to be negative, since it's so old. The transmission has a solenoid pack that we've replaced twice. It's an easy enough fix but still a kicker because once it goes, it's gone. There is also an issue with the seat belt and air bags; the signal doesn't reach all the time that someone is sitting in a seat so the air bags won't become active. Also, the windshield wiper switch--we can't figure out why, but it will only go in top speed. We even replaced it and it didn't do any good.

Jenkins & Wynne has an excellent staff. My salesman, Kurt, made the process painless. I waited a day before I finalized the purchase, but no extra pressure from anyone came my way. I have bought several vehicles from J & W in the past. I will continue to buy from them in the future.
