It's been a very competent car. Road handling in all weather, except wind, has been excellent. Because of it's 8.5" ground clearance which is great for loading and unloading, entering and exiting, it can be a handful on windy highways. And while it's notable, it's minor. Electric steering is responsive, making navigating city streets and parking lots easy. Turning radius is excellent. Braking is good. Acceleration is modest in the 4 cyl. Beware. It's fine around town. On the highway, and with people and luggage, it's another story. But once you learn it and adapt, it is fine. Gas mileage started soft but has gotten better and averages around 26, city and town. Highway averages 31 which I think is outstanding for a 'station wagon-y' vehicle with roof rack and 4wd. It's a joy to buy regu... (more)
Story
Not in my location but in 2016, I did a cross-Canada road trip: Vancouver to Montreal. It was an awesome experience. It's amazing how diverse Canada is and from the landscape to the cultures to the dialects. My Outback handled the trip amazing well, and that trip made me love the car. It had enough room for my camping equipment and bikes. It took me to some breathtaking vistas. I really pushed... (more)
Pros
Visibility is very good. Back-up camera is essential and works very well in handling tight spaces. The technology has improved over the previous models but can be a bit clumsy. Surprisingly roomy. It's a great value. The most important thing about this car (and Subarus in general) is that it's very safe.
Cons
Handing can be a bit of a handful on windy highways. The auto open tailgate can be fussy. Initially the suspension is very stiff, but it has softened over time. Technology interface can be clumsy. Uninspired design.

I switched to my Subaru from a 2008 Honda Civic, and I couldn't be happier with the change. I really wanted a car with more passenger and cargo space, and the Outback really hit on both. I also wanted a car that was raised up a little bit, since I live in Los Angeles, and it's nice to see above traffic. In addition to this, I'm into camping and outdoors activities so the Outback clearly fit into that lifestyle as well.
Story
The EyeSight makes LA rush hour much more tolerable. There have been numerous times it has really made the difference for me -- being that I used to commute 50 miles each way. Those miles were bad before EyeSight, but after buying my Outback, at least I could take my foot off the pedal and relax a little bit more.
Pros
My favorite feature is the EyeSight feature. It allows me to sit back and relax while my car drives for me on the freeway. It also adds additional safety in that it will automatically brake for me if there are sudden stops going backwards and forwards. In addition to this feature, I love the sound system and the leather seats that came with my Limited class. They really make the entire interior have the look and feel of a luxury car.
Cons
One of my main negatives with this car is the fuel indicator on the dash doesn't always display an accurate estimate for the remaining gas. I have run out of gas before because this indicator told me I still had 40 miles to go. In addition to this, I feel like it could have slightly better gas mileage, but it's still a very good for a car its size. City mileage can be pretty bad if you don't try to limit your use of the gas pedal.

Everyone was so warm and helpful, it was easy feeling welcomed and not overwhelmed. They worked very hard to find the specific car/color I wanted.
