2008 Toyota Prius - Great Car
I purchased this car in 2009, trading in a gas guzzling Jeep Wrangler. We knew that we were going to be starting a family soon, and wanted a car that was more family friendly, as well as easier on the pocketbook at the pump. It is of great quality (as are most Toyotas) and we have not needed to do many repairs on it. We have been incredibly happy with the car.
Story
I remember the first time we took the car to the coast ( about an hour away). We filled the tank right before leaving, and filled it up again when we got back. The whole trip only cost us around $7 in gas. We had so much fun seeing how efficient it was.
Pros
This car gets amazing gas mileage. I cut my fuel bill in half when I purchased this car. Although it looks small from the outside, it is very roomy on the interior. We have plenty of space to store things with the fold down back seats. I also love the backup camera that lets me see behind the car as I am backing out of my driveway.
Cons
Overall the car has been great, but there have been a few issues. The headlights have gone out a few times and they are a pain to replace. The space required to fit your hand down in there and change it is tight, to say the least. The other issue we have had is the small battery in the back of the car (I think it is called the auxiliary battery). It went out at one point, and was fairly expensive to replace. More so than a standard car battery. It can also be difficult to do some minor work because, as a hybrid, quite a few auto shops aren't certified to maintenance them. So I have been st... (more)
2011 Toyota Prius - Great car with music
When I bought an electrical car, I was expecting something very high-tech. The Prius isn't that. Despite the computerized dashboard and the optional GPS, the Prius is just pretty much like every other car. The gas mileage is fantastic, as with most hybrids, and as someone who travels a lot, that was mostly what I bought it for. I also liked the high trunk space, since I'm a musician, which means I can put instruments back there.
Story
I was teaching a friend to drive in my car when we got lost up in the mountains. I wasn't worried about gas, so we decided to keep going until we found something I recognized, but I hadn't been in town for three months, so my knowledge of the town was a bit fuzzy. In the end, we ended up in the next town over, at a Chinese Children's' Choir concert somehow.
Pros
The gas mileage is the best I've ever had. I can make multiple trips up to the big city in my state without having to gas up again. The computerized dashboard is really nice as well; it only takes a quick glance to see my speed and gas. The overall design is sleek, and the trunk is tall, which means you can stack stuff in the back (or use it to move).
Cons
Unfortunately, it's a mostly plastic car, which means it rattles like no other. I've taken it in to Toyota several times and they can't find the main rattle in the dashboard. It's also a bit strange to press on the gas and not immediately go; in order to save fuel efficiency, it stalls for a second and slowly accelerates, meaning that in a really quick emergency, it would be impossible to get out of the way quickly. Also, I'm not a fan of leather interior, which is all that they had available.
