2005 Toyota Prius - Built like a tank
I think the car is built exceptionally well. I really like the hybrid system since I can average 45mpg in the summer time and over 35mpg in the winter time with the heat on. I have changed nothing but the tires, brakes, and oil on the car in the 150,000 miles that I have owned it. I had an accident over 100,000 miles ago where the insurance company totaled out the vehicle. I purchased a cheap bumper cover on Amazon and replaced it myself so the vehicle looked presentable on the road. I t-boned someone that blew a light at about 35mph. The car looked destroyed at first but I ended up having no problem driving it to work. I really like the immediate power you feel when taking off thanks to the electric motor. I also like the dash screen and the available information about your cu... (more)
Story
I delivered for Jimmy John's subs and this car saved me a lot of money in gas and also the keyless fob system allowed me to hop in and out of my car quickly without pulling my key out of my pocket.
Pros
Brakes, Mileage, Hybrid system, premium sound system.
Cons
Car is 11 years old and the two front woofer's have blown. Also, my power steering failed last year. It is a maintenance free system (no fluid) so something needs replaced and will probably be expensive. I have yet to fix these problems.
2008 Toyota Prius - Great for Long Distance Travel
We love our Prius! It is excellent on gas at about 44mpg. We have had the car for 4 years, and the only maintenance it has needed is oil changes and tire replacements. We once drove from Meridian, MS to Chesapeake, OH to Raleigh NC and back to Mississippi on less than $60 in gas (with gas at about $1.60/gallon at the time). That's 55 hrs worth of driving time! We road trip a lot so the car is perfect for us.
Story
Sitting in traffic in Atlanta, I smiled when my Prius was just chilling in traffic not wasting an ounce of gas. The engine stops running when the car is sitting still.
Pros
Pros are gas mileage, back up camera, keys that will crank the car from inside your pocket, and the amount of space (the thing has a ton more space than you would think)! Also, the car has had a rather slow depreciation, and there is a huge market for the Prius if we ever decide to sell.
Cons
There are a few cons. The car feels cheaply made. I feel like I could thump it and dent it. I guess it is because they are trying to make it light and aerodynamic or something. I feel like I could sneeze and crack the dash (not really). It can also be a little rough. It's okay for my wife and I because we are young, but my mother has a hard time going more than a couple of hours in it.
