I had a Mazda MPV van for many years and was very reticent to let it go. However, the old girl was on her last legs and it was time to move on. When I looked at the new Mazda offerings, I did not like them. I decided, on a pure whim, to go to a Toyota dealership and look at a Toyota Sienna. It was love at first sight. Now, bear in mind that I walked away from 50+vehicles sold by private owners, used car lots and dealerships prior to going to the Toyota dealership, so I was not an easy mark. Sienna was tucked in the corner of the lot, gleaming white and ready for that test drive. Wow, she got around town so easily. She mounted the freeway on-ramp quickly and I was able to parallel park her without an issue utilizing the nifty back camera (which I had never had in a vehicle before). ... (more)
Story
I always took my dogs with me to the park in my old white van. Well. when I got my new white Toyota Sienna, I couldn't let two stinky dogs put their hair all over it. So instead, I walk a few extra miles with the dogs to the park (instead of drive them) so that I can keep my van as hair-free as possible!
Pros
Spacious. Dash easily accessible. Tiny windows in front on the dash is a nice feature. Performance is better than I expected. Luxury, comfortable seating even though it is the basic model. She looks sleek as opposed to some vans that look frumpy.
Cons
A couple of recall notices have been a bit distressing i.e. air bag warnings and a request to disable to automatic sliding door. Honest to God, I have no problem slamming my own door - I don't need it done for me, so it's not a huge deal. I don't particularly like the gray/blue carpeting and seat cover colors but I can always use accessories. I have had no negative issue with the vehicle engine thus far.

We needed a minivan in the late 1990s when we had 2 small kids and older parents to drive around. The Toyota Sienna had just come out. We liked its sleeker look compared to the other minivans. They were hot items at the time! The model my husband ended getting, as it was available and apparently a good price, had the extra foot ridge for passengers. So, the look wasn't as sleek, but good enough for us. We do drive our cars "to the ground." This was the first car we got as a family, and close to 124,000 miles later, she's still with us. Only did need a new transmission this past winter. Otherwise, still very reliable.
Story
We were on family road trip to LA, stopped at some rest stop after lunch. We had rolled down the windows, as it was very hot. But when we wanted to roll them up and get onto I-5 again, the front window wouldn't budge! Flies started filling our car. We found out that the window would only move up a centimeter or so at a time, every few hours. So, we had a very breezy ride into LA. Have had to d... (more)
Pros
Reliable Toyota quality. Can put my bike (or two) in the back.
Cons
I wish the fuel economy could be better. Gets about 20 mpg local, maybe 23-24 highway. That was OK in 1998. Today, it's not good by my standards. A few little things have broken down, such as the driver's window not rolling up well and the rear window also needed a fix. And, I don't like how the defrost setting almost always puts the AC on. Honda doesn't do that.

It's pretty close to home and the people that work there are pretty easy-going and laid back. When I was shopping for a car I never felt pressured into anything and they were more than happy to answer all of the questions I had. I can be pretty demanding when car shopping so it was satisfying to see how dedicated they were to making sure all my concerns and needs were addressed.
