2003 Toyota Tacoma - Tacoma is a good fit
The Toyota Tacoma is a reliable and well-built truck. With over 220,000 miles, my truck is still going strong with practically zero work ever having been performed on the vehicle. The bed is rather small, but you are still quite easily able to fit an ATV in it for outdoor activities. The front seats are nice however if you push them back quite far to fit taller people it really closes in the rear seats. Power for pulling trailers is excellent, and it has pulled many loads throughout my time having it. Overall, a very well-built truck that has been a reliable vehicle for many thousands of miles and will continue to do such for many years to come.
Story
Once while hunting I was going down a muddy road and when turning, I slid off into a ditch. I was not able to get out but was very close. A friend on an ATV was able to easily pull me back onto the road with no problems.
Pros
Truck is small and light. Reliability is off the charts. Keep up with basic maintenance and it will drive forever with no issues. When break downs do occur, parts are relatively cheap and most parts stores have them in stock. Power is very strong, and it will pull most trailers with relative ease. The truck also holds it value extremely well and resale values are very high.
Cons
The seats are not that comfortable for long rides. The gas mileage leaves a lot to be desired. In town gas mileage is about 15 mpg where as highway is about 17-18 mpg. The truck also rides very rough and is very bouncy on rough roads. The main con is the insurance prices. The price to insure this truck is much higher than other trucks of the same year. I can own a much newer truck and still pay less on the insurance prices.
2001 Toyota Tacoma - Reliable and Trustworthy
We have owned this Tacoma for many years. It still looks nice even though it is relatively "old." We have a four door so we can transport our kids around to school, practice, and friends houses but also take it to the hardware store and load it up with wood and large appliances. We have become very fond of the Toyota brand and most of our vehicles have all been Toyotas. It is a mid size truck I would say, and so its gas mileage reflects that... not the worst but not the best. We have never had any engine trouble and have only changed drive belts and other regular maintenance items. The interior has some wear but nothing that wouldn't be expected in this age of a vehicle. It's easy and inexpensive to work on when we do need to take it in for repairs. It has a nice "get up" to it... (more)
Story
A friend of mine with a newer more expensive different model/make got stuck in the ditch and called me to pull them out, with my much older and dirtier truck.
Pros
Nice body style, can take a beating and still perform well, easy and cheap to fix.
Cons
Doesn't get the BEST mileage of a vehicle that you could buy.
