For extreme off-roading capability, consider the TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro trims. These models add a locking rear differential, high-performance shock absorbers, additional traction control modes (Multi-Terrain Select), and crawl control a low-speed form of cruise control.

The Toyota Tacoma Prerunner is just about the best truck ever made. Its resale value is testament to its longevity, quality and performance. With the bigger V6, it has more than enough power to haul whatever I put in it. while gas mileage isn't great, it has more than enough torque to get out of a tight spot off road. As I have looked around for a replacement to this truck, it is hard to find one that has less than 100k miles...yet it still sells for $15k . Even early 2000-era Tacomas go for a premium because you can't kill it.
