My first three cars were all Oldsmobile Cutlass Sierra models. I absolutely loved that car! My Malibu is a really great car, though, and I am happy that I chose it. I took it over from my mother who didn't like it because she said that it was "outdated". Compared to my mid- 90's Oldsmobile, it wasn't to me at all! However, the more time went on, I realized that it is outdated, and it became something that I can never get over when I am driving it. I do think though, that no matter what year a car is from, outdated or not, that safety is the most important factor, and this car makes me feel very safe! I know it is ironic because I said that I feel the car is outdated, but one of the things that I dislike very much about the vehicle is that it has a major problem with the dash- the speed... (more)
Story
Not exactly fun, but we once were carrying home a party-sized pizza for a birthday party, and we ran over a dead skunk on the road and when we opened the trunk to take out the pizza, the trunk, box, and pizza were ruined by the overwhelming scent of skunk spray. YAK!
Pros
Safety- this car feels, drives, and appears safe in all aspects. Model- I love the shape of the car- I don't like the more modern (2000's and up) cars that are huge, I am more into the smaller cars like Focus and VWs but the look of this car is very nice. Room- it is very roomy!
Cons
A few times I have had an issue with the back left door not closing, the latch has gone wonky. It wasn't hit nor was I in an accident, it just stopped closing one day and then a month later got better with no explanation. The computer in the car is totally screwy and it makes all the dash information and gauges go insane. Because of the fact that the speedometer is nuts and the fact that the gas tank always says empty, I have had to write down how much gas the tank holds, then add how much I put into the car, and then subtract what I assume are the approximately miles of every trip from t... 2000 Chevrolet Malibu - Great engineering destroyed by bad construction.

The 2000 Malibu was a great idea, roomy, great pickup, lots of power, and great features package for its time. Unfortunately, it was constructed with shoddy parts and was released with the "Dexcool" coolant that completely destroyed the cooling system and forced major recalls and thousands of dollars worth of repairs. What could have been a great car was destroyed by a bad decision (the coolant) and what was probably a series of corner-cutting to keep costs down at the factory.
Story
I was using the vehicle to drive from California to Ohio before we knew about the Dexcool fiasco. In one trip it broke down like five times. We had to replace the coolant tank, the cap, all of the hoses, and the radiator. The guy fixing the radiator accidentally stuck a screwdriver in my alternator and didn't tell us until the car broke down after we'd left the shop -- at 6pm on a Friday --... (more)
Pros
The engine has excellent power and pickup, and with a car this size, it really gets up and goes. The car is roomy, and the standard features are pretty good for the year it was made. It's strong enough to take a hitch and pull most anything, and the trunk is huge.
Cons
The Dexcool coolant they tried that year totally destroyed the coolant system. Any car that used it will probably need hoses, tank, cap, radiator, head gasket, and rear gasket all replaced at some point, and if Dexcool wasn't pinned as the reason before all the repairs, you likely found yourself replacing everything again later. If a car is still on the market that didn't have all that done, the likelihood is high that it still needs done. Aside from that, the controller for the fan goes out and has to be replaced or fixed every couple of years. The lights on the radio fail and cannot be ... (more)

The salesman I spoke with was very nice and friendly, and not intimidating or pushy at all. They worked with us on the price and made the process easy. Also, they offered water and popcorn to us as we waited.

The salesman worked with his price of the vehicle so as to stay within our price range. We had a set limit and could not go above that price. They met the price "out-the-door".
