Used Chevrolet Astro for Sale

The Chevy Astro van's motor is known to last forever. You don't need to worry about replacing a timing belt, because it uses a timing chain. The one I have has been beat up pretty good, but is still running well. It seems not too hard to work on the van yourself - especially underneath the vehicle.

I bought the Astro with 130,000 miles three years ago. Replaced a Jeep Cherokee with it and so happy with our choice. More cargo and smoother ride. Mine is not a soccer mom mobile. It's the toy box, and I have a long playlist. Take one seat out and you can still seat five comfortably. I can put five bikes in the back. Or skis or snowboards... climbing gear... windsurf/kitesurf rigs... or a mixture of them all. In the winter, I move the seat to the back row and you have a nice space to put ski boots on or have lunch between snow kite sessions or sleep in. Rear heat works great. No need for a rocket box, but it has factory racks so easy to do if needed. Hook up a trailer and pull four dirt bikes or two snowmobiles no worries. Right now it's winter and this van loves it. So stable on ice and snow. Good tires of course do help a lot. We ski little cottonwood country and chase wind for snow kiting, so we are often driving in blizzards. It's weight and well proportioned to its size.

As my first vehicle, I am content with my 1998 Chevrolet Astro LS. It was my grandmother's van originally and she used it for five years hauling pottery from Mexico with zero problems. She crashed it into a telephone pole at 40 mph and the vehicle was still functional. I appreciate the cargo capacity and towing capability when my family goes camping in the summer or motorcycle riding year-round. However, its limitations show themselves when the vehicle is heavily loaded with camping gear and a hitch carrier with four bicycles. The springs could use to be upgraded. My family drove it as a daily driver for several years when my younger brother was a baby, due to the ease of which we could enter and exit the vehicle and carry strollers and diaper bags. Now, I have been driving it for two years to run errands or travel to local attractions. My family still uses it for camping and towing dirt bikes to the desert every month or so and it works excellently for this purpose. Around town though, I find myself appreciating the maneuverability and superior brakes of my mother's 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid, as these qualities are lacking with the van. It is difficult to park in tight spaces and cannot travel as quickly as other cars around town. Nevertheless, I appreciate the powerful 4.6 liter V6 engine when it comes time to merge onto the highway. The additional cargo and seating capacity is nice when carrying groceries or multiple people on long car trips. Overall, I enjoy my family's Chevy Astro but it is likely I will switch to a smaller, more maneuverable vehicle once I leave my parent's home, possibly a mid 80s Isuzu Pup.
