2004 Chevrolet Suburban - The Chevrolet Suburban - the ultimate family vehicle.
I have owned my Chevy Suburban for more than 10 years, having purchased it to replace my first Chevy Suburban I initially purchased in the fall of 2000. It was that purchased that made me realize I would always own a Suburban, regardless of the size of my family.
Six years later when I was replacing my first Suburban with my second, the upgrades over the years only made me happier with my decision. It drove so nicely and was practically silent on the road. By now we had grown to a family of seven, and we had plenty of room for everyone, with no crowding or fighting. The enormous space in the back was unbelievable and it came with a tow package as well. Yes, just as with my first Suburban, gas mileage was still an issue. However, with a family my size, there are always trade offs, and I... (more)

By now we had grown to a family of seven, and we had plenty of room for everyone, with no crowding or fighting. The enormous space in the back was unbelievable and it came with a tow package as well. Yes, just as with my first Suburban, gas mileage was still an issue. However, with a family my size, there are always trade offs, and I was more than willing to pay for gas for the knowledge that my family was safe in a vehicle that I believed was well built for one thing, and secondly, that my family was seated in safely and packed in tightly. Especially considering I had two toddlers still in car seats and would be for some time. With the rear air conditioning, everyone was very comfortable and it made for calm and happy trips, be they short neighborhood drives or vacation trips. One great thing about my Suburban that makes me want to hang on to it is the ability to take out my bench seats. I have taken them out so many times to carry so many things: camping gear, moving boxes, ice chests, furniture, you name it, I've carried it in there. If it's messy, I just put tarps down. Who needs a truck when you've got a Suburban? It can tow and carry! It's worth every penny.
My Suburban is black and there are quite a few like mine around here. We went to a store, parked, and went in. When we came out, we went to get back in our car, and I unlocked it, and my son got in before I unlocked it and I noticed quite a few things on the floor of the car. They hadn't locked their Suburban but had parked two spots away from us. Very embarrassing. It's a common car.
It can tow the same as a truck. Seats eight passengers. Rear air conditioning. Removable rear seats.

Rear climate control gives your rear passengers the ability to set their own heating and cooling preferences and the abundance of air vents promises no fights over the air conditioner in the hot summer months. There are cubby spaces throughout the rear rows for the storage of small items so they are not loose around the interior. The exterior offers side steps so even small passengers can easily climb in. Being a large, heavy vehicle, the gas mileage is not good. In city, you can expect around 10-11 mpg. On the freeway, it averages about 16-17 mpg. Hauling anything extra with the tow hitch will lower those averages substantially. Mechanically, the engine has been quite reliable. We did have to replace the transfer case when the vehicle was about 13 years old, so nothing too out of the ordinary. Small mechanical issues have come up over the years: water pump replacement, and window regulator replacement on 3 of 4 windows so far. Overall, the vehicle has been an asset to our family.
We took the family to Knights Ferry - the dog included! The spacious interior made for an incredibly comfortable ride for all.

The spacious interior and power folding side mirrors for tight spaces.

The engine is a little small for such a large vehicle, making the gas mileage terribly low, especially in town. The smaller engine size also makes it feel underpowered.
