2007 Ford Escape - Review of Ford Escape
My first experience with driving a Ford Escape, was when I had one as a rental car. I am bigger than average, and I fit into it comfortably (huge plus). Plus, I thought the dashboard was laid out well and I was able to find everything easily. So when my car was having problems, I went to the Ford Dealership and purchased a Ford Escape, for less than $16,000 in late 2006. This was so much cheaper than many other cars cost, and it satisfied my needs well. I sometimes have the need to carry things about, and the SUV gives you more storage than most.
I like white, my car is white. The interior is fine, it may be a bit plain but that is OK with me. I have a stick shift which makes the car seem a bit sporty. I have a four cylinder engine, which provides plenty of pickup for me. I wouldn't h... (more)
Historia
As mentioned, drove the car on several trips from San Diego to Kansas City. Even with a ton (so to speak) of stuff in the car, it still drove well and was not under powered. I enjoyed greatly the I-70 in Western Colorado, as scenic as could be.
A Favor
Car is dependable, low running costs, and fun to drive. The SUV part of the back gives you the ability to haul some things (like a big screen TV), and even save money on delivery costs, sometimes. It has held up well for the first 80,000 miles and I expect it to continue.
It is smaller, but surprisingly comfortable. I have actually driven it 800 miles in a day a number of times, on a trip. And not have had my back hurt, or anything. The gas mileage on the trips approached 30 mpg.
En Contra
It can have a rough ride, if the road is rough. The car I have does not have a cruise control. Also, I think it would be expensive to replace the radio/CD with a new one, with Bluetooth, GPS, etc. Which I would like to have, but can live without for now.
2005 Ford Escape - Reliable
The Ford Escape was purchased because of the cost of gas at the time. I had been driving a Ford Explorer, but it was getting costly to fill it up, so the Escape was purchased. Just a smaller version of what I had.
Historia
Very nice small SUV. Good power with V6. Handles like a car, taut but compliant suspension. Very maneuverable with tight turning radius. Bright fog lights. Comfortable and roomy for its small size. It's a lot of car for your money. The 2005 redesign looks much improved over previous model years. Cool wheels.
A Favor
I like the box styling and simple interior layout. The leather interior cleans up nicely. It drives like a car, but you feel like you're in a truck. The AWD is automatic and gave me no problems driving through several snowstorms. It's pretty compact and easy to park. Mechanics are familiar with them, so repairs are cheaper compared to other makes.
En Contra
Address the rust issues. It's everywhere on these vehicles. If you ignore the rust, you will have huge problems. The rear seats are a pain to fold down and back up. If I was buying a used Escape again, I would avoid 2005 models because of the known wheel well defect. If it's not fixed early, it can be a very expensive fix.
