The Hyundai Elantra is a good cheap economy car if you don't mind compromising comfort. It gets great gas mileage and handles well in winter, but you'll never be comfortable. Not a good family car as heat and cool don't reach the back seat passengers without making front seat passengers very uncomfortable. And far to little leg room in the back seat to fit a teenager or adults.

The 2000 Hyundai Elantra is poorly designed in many ways. I would not recommend this make and model to anyone looking for a new car. The paint job was ruined after only 5 years and I've noticed Other cars of the same make and model with the same issues. The electrical system in the car is a joke. Nothing fires properly. There was a recall for a engine problem that was repaired but the car still exhibits the engine problem and can't be repaired without expensive investigations. My horn does not work and my turn signals do not work and its too expensive to figure out why.
