I have owned my Jeep Wrangler for over 6 years now and it was purchased used. I was looking for a 4wd vehicle that was in my price range, around $15k or less, and had decent gas mileage since at the time prices were up around $3.85 a gallon. I found the base model Wrangler and assumed it was a vehicle I would own for a few years and sell on since the resell value is high. I really love my Jeep and even though it lacks some creature comforts, I wouldn't part with it. It gets decent gas mileage and has good performance for a 4cyl off road vehicle. It is stylish and functional for the outdoor activities I take it on and it has never broken down on the trail. I know it is a base model, but it is solid and reliable for an entry level 4wd.
Historia
I took my Jeep out to visit family after a winter snow storm hit the South. People don't drive well in wintery conditions in Tennessee, but the jeep was easily zipping around town and driving comfortably in the snow on the interstate.
A Favor
I like the look of the Wrangler and the durability of the body. There aren't plastic panels like on most cars these days and it can take quite a bit of punishment. It gets decent gas mileage for a 4wd vehicle in the $15k price range and has enough pep to be a daily driver on the interstate. I haven't had any major maintenance issues, and if I did they would be very easy to fix. Everything in the engine bay is accessible and intuitive. I have replaced several parts and everything has been easily available and relatively cheap. I have used this vehicle multiple times to camp and it handles i... (more)
En Contra
There are minor inconveniences the jeep has, like a lack of A/C in the SE model. It also has some issues shifting into 1st gear that can be solved by lining up the gears by shifting to 4th then 1st. It also has drum brakes on the rear which don't cause an issue, but would feel better if they were disc brakes. I would add better stock bumpers to the Jeep since the plastic end caps do nothing for the overall aesthetic of the car. It would also be nice if there was a roof rack option that wasn't aftermarket. I like the smaller 2 door Jeeps, but space is an issue.

The Wrangler is still pretty spectacular off-road. That, unfortunately, makes it pretty rough on it. The current car is better than ever but don’t expect to make effortless trans-continental trips in this car, whether you’re in the two or four-door version. You’ll die of boredom. The Wrangler might have been improved beyond all recognition from the old car, but that’s like saying that this version is going to snap your spine more gently than the last. It bounces, it shimmies, it can go off-road. And stay there. The more sensible of the very un-sensible people likely to buy a Wrangler will go for the 2.8-litre four-pot diesel, which produces 197 bhp. It’s not the most refined, but the torque - 339lb ft. of it - is ideal for off-roading. Unsurprisingly. There’s a 3.6-litre V6 too, but th... (more)

One memorable experience is driving the Jeep with my family with no doors and no top in the city of Chicago on a hot and windy summer day.
A Favor
4×4 capabilities — can handle any road anywhere. Height advantage over most cars — greater visibility. Classic design/unique look. Can be personalized & customized to your liking — lots of options & aftermarket items. Unique styling serves as both an SUV and a convertible. Good heating system. A simply constructed vehicle that’s easy to repair. Short wheelbase, powerful drivetrain, body size & tight turning ratios all great for off-roading. Small size & lightweight, makes it a cinch to swing into tight spots. Great vehicle for all seasons. Jeep fraternity of friends for life. Rugged and du... (more)
En Contra
Awkward to get into — requires high step in. Slower acceleration, especially on interstates. Limited storage space — for luggage, groceries, etc. Noisy — road, wind, engine, and tire noise Firm suspension results in a stiffer, bumpier ride. Rear visibility can be a challenge with the top on. Tall, boxy profile is not aerodynamic meaning greater wind resistance & wind noise. Less than ideal front seat positions for taller drivers. Everything is an “option” — carpet, steel doors, rear seat, etc. Outdated appearance of gauges and switches. Slow steering. Most are only four-seaters (comfortabl... (more)
