Very reliable
The 1997 Lincoln Town Car has performed admirably. It is very reliable, rides smoothly. My particular car has almost 500k on it. Riding in the car is a dream, as it's a smooth, quiet ride. The seats are power, very cushioned, and fully adjustable (up, down, forward, backwards.) The car has a built in garage door opener that can be programmed to your particular garage door. The body is luxurious and sleek. The car is sturdy. The car does, however, burn a tremendous amount of gasoline. It gets the worst miles per gallon of any car I've ever owned. Fifteen dollars worth of gas, with the air conditioner running, only gets you about 50 miles or so. When something does go wrong with the car, it is not entirely cheap, or easy, to repair. The power windows on the car are not reliable and will stop working. The power seats and mirrors, however, still function as normal. To purchase the car new, is extremely expensive. The car is not economical, or I'd imagine, good for the environment, with the big V8 engine.

My Lincoln Towncar
So far, my Towncar had 285,000 miles and counting. I only paid $1,000.00 for it. I change the oil regularly. It averages about 20 miles a gallon. The air bags went out. And I spent over$1,000.00 trying to fix them. That didn't work so I had to install a strut and spring conversion kit. Mechanically, there is nothing won't with the car. The only thing under the good I have replaced is the thermostat and a serpentine belt. Changed the antifreeze a few times. Replaced the ball joints. Had to replace the rear shaft drive this summer. Then put new wheel hub assembly on front. Car cover is coming off. And the ceiling is coming apart.

Smooth riding car with decent gas mileage.
I really enjoyed my 1997 Lincoln Town Car. It had the 4.6 liter modular Ford engine, which provided plenty of power but was efficient enough to give an average gas mileage of about 20 mpg. The suspension was very well engineered and provided a ride so smooth that it felt like you were driving a very comfortable Italian leather sofa. The interior was plush and had plenty of amenities and luxurious trim. This car was also an ideal ride for someone like myself who had a car audio hobby. I was able to fit monstrous sound systems in the spacious trunk, and the car was well insulated so the sound quality inside the cabin was great. The Town Car did have a few drawbacks though. One was that the plastic intake manifold was faulty and had to be recalled by the factory. The replacement part was much better and had aluminum ports instead of plastic, which was able to withstand the heat of the engine cooling system. Another common problem with the Town Car was the air ride suspension failing. Once I removed the rear airbags and replaced them with some nice progressive shocks, the car was more reliable and still provided a cushy driving experience.
