No frills? No problem.
The Subaru BRZ or the equivalent Scion FRS is a back-to-basics kind of car. This car was a join effort made by Subaru and Toyota to design a fun and affordable sports car that was very driver oriented. At first glace the first thing you might notice about the BRZ is how very low this car sits to the ground right from the factory. The newly designed FA20 boxer engine allows the engine to sit much lower than the conventional four cylinder, therefore providing a much lower center of gravity. Combine that with a firm suspension, rear wheel drive and an overall sporty design, and you have a recipe for fun! Inside a fully equipped, Limited edition BRZ comes equipped with automatic dual climate control, push-start ignition, touch screen SAT/NAV stereo, Bluetooth with phone integration, USB and auxiliary inputs, voice command, auto-dimming rear view mirror Homelink, and heated leather seats with Alcantara inserts. The seats, steering wheel, and shift boot all include a sporty red stitching accent that really makes the interior enjoyable to look at. The outside of the BRZ sports LED daytime running lights, adjustable high intensity discharge headlights, and fog lamps. The low-slung roof line, 17" wheels, rear spoiler and dual exhaust give this car its sporty look. Once you're driving the BRZ, the first thing you will probably notice is the stiff suspension. This can be a pro or a con for some drivers. This clearly provides the car with its unique characteristic, but can be a little tedious for the daily driver, or on long distance travels. The short-throw gearbox is very nicely designed, however, almost all BRZ's and FRS' alike tend to experience a 'notchy' second gear. The SAT/NAV system is a bit complex to control at first, but after driving the car you learn how to navigate it with relative ease. However, the lack of any physical buttons can prove to be problematic to control while driving down the street -- especially with that stiff suspension. The overall driving experience is a blast. This car does what it was designed to do very well. Its responsive steering, stiff suspension, and short throw gearbox definitely puts a smile on your face when pushing it through corners. Unfortunately, the car suffers from a pretty noticeable torque dip anywhere short of three to four thousand RPMs. With that being said, this car was certainly not designed for be drag raced -- it was meant to a sense of enjoyment while whipping it around corners; and to that end, Subaru has done a great job accomplishing that mission.
