Old Reliable
The car stayed in Wisconsin for most of its life, so the paint is chipping quite a bit on the back and there is Wisconsin rust on the bottom. For all purposes, this car is extremely reliable. It has had some electrical issues, and we recently had to replace the brakes, but it definitely has outlived the other old cars in the family and has had less problems than they did. I love how quickly it accelerates, and I love that I can rely on it in bad weather, including snow. I love that it has a smaller body and is very easy to drive. I learned how to drive in this car just a few years ago. The previous owners (my grandparents) bought the car when it was new and always took good care of it. My grandpa drove it countless times back and forth from northern Wisconsin to North Carolina and never had any issues on those trips. Even though it still has electrical issues with the lights inside the car from time to time, we just drove it from NC to Myrtle Beach last week and had no issues with it. It is also AWESOME on gas when the oil is new. We always have to change the oil every 3,000 miles to keep the good gas mileage.

Just Okay
Overall, the Subaru Impreza is good car when compared to others in its class. The standard all wheel drive Subaru platform is what prompted me to consider the car, and it is the feature that had the most influence on my decision to purchase the vehicle. Unfortunately, to make an all wheel drive car in that price point, Subaru has sacrificed quality in other areas. The interior plastic parts are the cheapest I've seen since the '90s. They scratch and mark very easily (within the first week of ownership). While there was nothing wrong with the seating material, it was definitely a step down from the seats in my previous 2005 Mazda. I own the automatic version of the Subaru hatchback, which I don't expect to be as precise in shifting as a manual transmission. However, it's still pretty clunky for an automatic. I find a lot of hesitation when trying to accelerate through the gears quickly. One other positive about the car is the hatchback. Granted, a lot of manufacturers make hatchbacks, but this is my first experience with one. I can't tell you how many times I've moved and hauled things that I never would have been able to fit in a standard 4 door. The all wheel drive and hatchback are the main selling points of this model.
