2015 Toyota Prius - Cost-conscious, cost-effective spaceship.
A great car for someone looking to spend less on gas and more on traveling around on adventures. I love packing my car with gear (yoga mat, swimsuit, picnic, the works!), grabbing a few friends, and setting up my playlist to play out of my awesome sound system. The interior feels roomy with the domed roof but it parallel parks like a dream for urban adventures, like downtown LA ramen crawls. In a year of owning it, not one system has gone bad. Once I thought my dashboard light had blown out but I had turned the level of brightness down with my knee! Luckily Toyota has great online forums who set me straight.
Historia
My friend and I head up to LA all the time from San Diego and now we ride in style as my car runs smooth and it takes so much less gas than my manual convertible I used to drive. We were stuck in traffic in Irvine once for over an hour but I never worried about the gas once. This car rides forever!
A Favor
My favorite feature is definitely the gas mileage. I can stay in town for two weeks and not fill up or head out of town and make it to my destination without a pit stop. I love how much space there is inside and all the storage in the center console. The peace of mind of Toyota's engine is priceless to me who would prefer to drive than deal with any car issues. I have doubled the mileage on this car in one year and have nothing but smooth rides in it.
En Contra
Honestly, I don't have a single complaint about this car. It can drive heavy sometimes and it doesn't have the pick-up in the engine I grew used to in my last car. Since that was a Mazda Miata and one of the smoothest drives ever, I think the Prius is doing just fine. I would heartily and enthusiastically suggest this car to anyone who asked. I even let them test drive my car!
2009 Toyota Prius - Love it
The Prius is the perfect car -- with two exceptions. It's bad with hills, and it's bad with snow. Driving up a snowy hill is impossible. Normal paved hills are fine...dirt roads not so much. Other than that, it's been reliable, and I have no complaints. The gas mileage was great when I got it -- up to 60 mph highway. Now it's just good, 40mph or more. The car has 100,000 miles on it, and the decline in mileage occurred over many years. I still love my car. I'd like to buy a new one, because I don't like having an old car now that it's starting to have a few things break (a water pump last year, a catalytic converter this year) -- but I'm going to get another Prius.
A Favor
Gas mileage. Safety. Small -- easy to fit into small parking spaces. Can pack a lot in it when I move. Big enough to transport a tall bookshelf like the IKEA Billy bookshelf in it. It didn't break for a long time, and it's still in good shape. Great service from Toyota.
En Contra
Can't get up hills on dirt roads. Can't get up snowy hills on paved roads. Can't even get out of my parking space if there's an inch of snow.
