Reliable and safe
This is one of the last Volvo sedans available with a manual transmission. The engine is naturally aspirated so it has slow pickup but the inline five-cylinder engine is good on gas for such a heavy car. Being a Volvo, it has an abundance of safety features that are quite advanced for its age. The quality of the steel and paint is exceptional - a very important factor for such an old car in a northern climate where salt is used on the road. No rust even at 20 years of age. Cloth interior is simple and contributes to a very quiet cabin. There are many of these cars still on the road - great if you can find an owner willing to part with it!

Very nice and safe
This car is very powerful and a lot of fun to drive. It is nice and heavy and feels very safe. Overall the car looks nice and has held up well for being fairly old. The car has had several electrical problems and is very expensive to repair. I would love to have a newer version of this car. Since the car is old I do worry about it breaking down but I haven't had too many issues. I like Volvos in general and I appreciate how safe this car is. The car has automatic everything and is really high quality. Many newer cars seem cheap in comparison. The electrical problems have been with lights coming on for maintenance and things like the headlights not working. This car feels safe to drive even in the snow and ice. As far as gas mileage the car does pretty well for being a powerful mode.

Adequate
I bought the car back in 2012 from a used dealer in a city slightly to the north of me. I needed a car for a job that I recently acquired, and was on a limited budget. The car was comfortable in its seat, but very noisy and shook violently. The salesman assured me it would all be taken care of. As time progressed, this began to fall apart pretty quickly. A Check Engine light came on more or less the day after I bought it, and didn't go away because I couldn't afford the several thousand dollar repair that it needed. The issue, however, was problematic in that it caused my speedometer to fail, and my car to go limp. Once that was repaired, and the car doesn't have any other pressing matters, it is a very smooth drive, and a very pleasant experience given that it possesses basically every fancy feature (heated leather seats, etc.)
