I own a black, four door, automatic transmission, all-powered 1996 Ford Explorer. The interior is gray with fabric upholstery. My mother owned the car originally. I inherited it when she upgraded. This Explorer has less than 100,000 miles on it as it was and still is used primarily as an "around the town" car.
Story
This car has reliably gotten my dogs to the vet when they were sick or when there was any type of pet emergency, thus saving their lives. That is the best endorsement and best memory I can have.
Pros
One of the best attributes of an SUV is size. I love that I can put a large kennel in the back area. My large dogs are able to use the second row of seats to lay down and travel comfortably. I can also use the Explorer as I would a truck. If you fold the back seat forward, you can fit almost anything a pick-up could carry. And in an SUV, your items are protected from the elements, unlike in a truck. Another positive aspect of the Ford Explorer is design. I prefer a "boxier" looking vehicle as opposed to the current aerodynamic style. The body style isn't outdated. Overall the biggest pr... (more)
Cons
After almost 20 years, the paint is starting to peel and dull in sheen. The air conditioner has stopped working, which is very unpleasant in Texas summers. Stains are difficult to remove from the fabric upholstery. Also, there is only a cassette (!) Player and AM/FM radio.

We purchased our 2013 Ford Explorer xlt slightly used. We wanted the 2.0 turbo engine because of the gas mileage and the get up and go. Gas mileage has been great, been getting close to 23 miles per gallon. On a SUV, it's great! Room is enough for our family. We do recommend getting the captain seats in the rear seat if you have small children. It will make things way easier. We don't really use the third row, so it makes the cargo room way bigger. Having nice upgrades, like navigation, leather, back-up camera, heated seats and Ford sync system has made this vehicle great to own. Navigation had to be taken to dealer to be reset. Also, the back-up camera has failed a few times but dealer fixed at no cost. Overall, we love our 2013 Ford Explorer. We've taken our 2013 Ford Explorer on se... (more)
Story
One time I had to bail my wife out of leaving the kids locked inside at the gym. She accidentally left keys inside and our two kids. Good thing I worked closed enough to go and open it with the spare key.
Pros
Sync, head room all around, features, and gas mileage.
Cons
Bench seat and pickup a bit slow.

The sales guy that we used was great! He is direct, no nonsense, he seemed to be honest. He did not act like most sales guys we have used in the past.

It is the local ford dealership and I had always heard great things about it. When I was looking to buy my Fusion I knew exactly where I wanted to go.
