2005 Ford Explorer - Very reliable vehicle
Since I've had this vehicle I haven't had any serious problems with it. The few issues that I have had were easy fixes because everything is very easy to access.
Story
One time that I can remember with my vehicle is going camping and fishing with my family. we had plenty of space to everything that we needed to bring with us and had a great time.
Pros
The first thing that I can think of is the rack on top of the vehicle. It comes in very handy when transporting items too large for the inside of the truck. Another pro is the
4 wheel drive. 4 wheel drive comes in to play in many ways and in my opinion is always nice to have. I also like the hitch on the back. I like to fish and camp and that is a very nice feature to have. When it comes to vehicles, this one is very reliable. I have had very few problems with this vehicle and the problems I did have were very easy to work on. Everything is very accessible and easy to get to and wor... (more)
Cons
I have noticed that some of the decals have started to peel and or discolor. Another thing might be the fact the while it does have 4 wheel drive, you can only turn on the 4 wheel drive while you are moving.
1998 Ford Explorer - Love my old hunk of metal
I had owned a previous Explorer and when the time came for a new purchase, I stuck with the Explorer. Don't let the plain models fool you for a lack of durability or comfort. There is more than enough leg room to keep you comfortable on a long drive, plenty of storage room to pack up for any occasion, and a driver-friendly dashboard that has everything within reach. I have a hitch on the back that I tow a small trailer with, and I love how it tows without any problems. One of the reasons I chose the Explorer is because I have had to drive through some pretty bad snow storms. One occasion I hit a patch of ice. Ice is ice, so any vehicle will slide. After I ended up on the side of the road and into a snow bank, I just clicked it over to four-wheel drive and backed out of it like it was n... (more)
Story
A co-worker and I were on our way to work during a bad snow storm. I didn't have my Explorer in four-wheel drive and hit a patch of ice, slid off the road into (or actually through) a snow bank and into a field. My co-worker asked me how we were getting out of there. I told her it was easy; we're backing up. I clicked it into four-wheel drive and backed it up. ta-da lol
Pros
This was my second Explorer. The first one I had was fully equipped, and now I'm driving a regular model. Since I drove both types, I am able to compare a few things right off the bat. The loaded vehicle had a lumbar adjustment in the seat, forward and back powered seats, and a sunroof. The seats in the Explorer are comfortable enough without the lumbar adjustment, so I didn't miss not having that anymore and the non-powered forward and back seat adjustment moved smooth enough, that you didn't miss not having the power option. More than enough legroom for taller people. It tows excellent, ... (more)
Cons
The first thing I realized after I bought this vehicle was the gas mileage wasn't as good as my previous Explorer. I had a V8 that got an average of 28-30 miles per gallon. This was a V6 and struggled to get over 20 mpg. I thought a smaller engine would be a gas saver. Well the bigger engine was able to pull the weight of the Explorer without a problem, where the smaller engine had to run harder to keep up. I went through brakes, ball joints, and sway arm bars on this vehicle more than any other. However, I may of drove at a normal pace, but I did use this for towing and hauling. I'm not s... (more)
