2006 Ford F-150 - Great Pickup With a Terrible Engine
I bought this vehicle brand new off of the lot, and it now has almost 1000 miles after 9 years. It's been a great pickup, for the most part. There were a few quality issues, including the fuel pump, fuel pump driver module, and engine that have really lowered my enjoyment. If those few things had been properly engineered, this would be the best vehicle that I've owned yet.
Story
The first week that I had it we took it out pheasant hunting. We were driving through fields, and got it stuck in a snow drift. We had to walk 2 miles to get a tractor to pull it out.
Pros
The pickup rides extremely well. It's got a lot of room, and good basic features for the cost.
Cons
The engine is an engineering nightmare. You can Google for 2006 f150 spark plug and get a plethora of information on why the 2-piece spark plug in this generation of pickup was an engineering failure. When the motor gets hot from towing, the oil gets too thin and it idles rough. You can also come across any number of articles and forums about the ticking noise that the engine makes due to the phasers. The fuel pump went out 1 month after my warranty ran out. The fuel pump driver module was crumbling due to galvanic corrosion thanks to some terrible engineering.
