First off, this is an economy car. It is plastic and cloth inside, but the bulletproof drivetrain and amazingly usable interior set it far above similar SUVs. Many don’t realize, this first generation is almost entirely a Honda Civic drivetrain, raised 5 inches off the ground.
Story
One wintry day, there was a bit of an ice storm, and the roads in our valley were getting very slick. While driving home, I rolled up to an F150 off the road. I offered the driver a ride and we pulled away. Not a half mile ahead was a suburban, same thing, slid off the road. One more passenger. 3 miles further and there was another full size pickup. Two more squeezed in the back seat. I droppe... (more)
Pros
The CRV ground clearance has allowed us to climb through snow drifts, and scale the occasional curb. The fold down rear seats allowed me to move two bales of alfalfa (fortunately, wrapped in a tarp). The peppy little engine gets us up trails and around town, while still pulling off 24 mpg. One aspect I absolutely love about this little ride, when one of the front ball joints was going bad I opted to replace them all. Since it’s mostly a Civic underneath, I was able to swap everything with “race” rated parts for 1/3 the price of Honda components. Still going strong 5 years on and this littl... (more)
Cons
All said, I must admit, this is very much an economy car. It isn't going to win any races, and while you will be as tall as most of the trucks, you will definitely still be smaller.

In a hot market for SUVs, Honda revealed the redesign of its popular compact CR-V crossover, giving it more aggressive looks, better aerodynamics, and more power.
Pros
Normally, the arrival of a Special Edition in one of Honda’s product lineups signals an imminent redesign. Given that the 2016 CR-V’s engineering and design date to the 2012 model year, it is a good bet that a new 2017 CR-V is in the works. You don’t need to wait. Go ahead and get a 2016, because this is a terrific compact crossover SUV. In particular, the new CR-V Special Edition is an absolute bargain, a simple, visually appealing, practical crossover that will likely last forever if you treat it right. Choosing this version of the CR-V represents a smart financial decision, too. Very co... (more)
Cons
While the Special Edition is impressive for its undeniable value, it lacks two things modern consumers want. First, it does not come with Honda’s touchscreen infotainment system, which provides access to HondaLink connected services and a navigation system. Notably, all CR-vs. have Bluetooth with streaming audio capability, access to Pandora Internet radio, a USB connection, and text-messaging support. I think the instrument panel is a bit plain.

I bought my wife her last car here. It was a red Civic Si. Dave the salesman went out of his way to get what we wanted on the car for the price we wanted to pay. The day we bought the car they came and picked us up. Very nice people who treat you with respect.
