I have never understood the popularity of Ford Explorers. The only reason I still drive this car is due to having little money to afford a better vehicle. The repairs have been costly over the years. Within the first 7 years the transmission died twice. The second transmission repair did the trick and there were no transmission problems again until just recently. I had to have it rebuilt. I have also had the engine repaired and the exhaust system replaced. There have been many other less costly repairs. The gas mileage is also awful. 15 miles a gallon if you are lucky. Also, the ride has never been comfortable. It kind of jostles you around. I would say the handling is okay for a larger car. I no longer feel safe driving it mostly because it is so old. I felt mostly safe during its fi... (more)
Story
I used to drive this car to play in chess tournaments up and down the west cost. I have good memories traveling with other chess players to share the cost of fuel.
Pros
1)There is room for hauling stuff. I've managed to get a full, boxed sleeper sofa with the seats down. 2) I am tall so there is decent head room for me, though I would like more. 3) The 4 wheel drive can be useful sometimes when the roads are not paved.
Cons
1) Maybe on a good day you get 15 miles per gallon. 2)Has cost more in repairs than it was ever worth. 3)Not a whole lot of power, even when it was new. 4)Never a smooth ride, very bumpy.

2009 Ford Explorer - Good car, not much speed but great MPG for a non-hybrid.

My car is an used 2008 Ford Focus. I got it from my fiancé's grandmother who upgraded to a different car. She only had 300 miles on it at the time so I considered brand new more than used. I love how comfortable it felt and how well it responds to my steering.
Story
This vehicle has been our main mode of transportation for a few years now and it is great. The best part is that we have put a storm trooper helmet in the back seat and we get so many laughs and smiles from people.
Pros
There are a lot of great things about this car that should be noted. Specifically, the Bluetooth adaptability in the radio. I love that I don't have to worry about getting a moving violation because I need to use my telephone while driving. I also love the gas mileage on the car. The style and look of the car is also very appealing. I have had no problems with the car as far as performance or maintenance and as far as space goes, there is ample room in the trunk, center console and glove box.
Cons
The car has a 4 cylinder engine, making the pick-up and go ability nonexistent. I would love this car even more if it had a little more oomph to it. I also would like the vehicle to be easier to re-program the keyless entry to. Every time I replace the battery on the remote, I have to reprogram it to the car, causing my fiancé's keys to lose programming. That is ridiculous for something so simple to have such a problem with communication. Because I have longer legs, I have my seat adjusted all the way back, causing any back seat passengers to lose most, if not all, leg room.

They are very friendly and helpful. I don't feel like they are trying to force a sale on me and I feel that when I take the car in for service that they are not trying to rip me off.
